The Appointments - Trump's Swamp

Recommended Posts

Yes, I can just imagine the conversation...

Sleepy: But just what does the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development do?

the Donald: How the hell should I know.  Just dismantle it.

LOL!!!

Don't leave out Goldman-Sachs as many appointees have connections to it.

Ironic that the GOPers and Trumps made such a big thing about how crooked and corrupt Hillary was because she gave speech to Goldman-Sachs.

Now Trump is bringing G-S into the government at the highest levels.

That's different........

Here's a Washington Post story about wacky Mike Flynn and his son who now has a .gov email account ...

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-fix/wp/2016/12/05/did-michael-flynn-really-tweet-something-about-pizzagate-not-exactly/?tid=pm_politics_pop&utm_term=.59811d471266

Michael Flynn’s tweet wasn’t actually about #PizzaGate, but his son is now defending the baseless conspiracy theory
Highlight..
it's also worth noting here the Flynns have trafficked in these kinds of bogus stories many times before. And even as Flynn Sr. can't be specifically tied to fomenting the Comet Ping Pong rumors beforehand, his decision to pass along a baseless article about the Clintons and sex crimes makes conspiracy theories like Comet Ping Pong more believable. This stuff is becoming a scourge.
As CNN has reported, the younger Flynn has “shared stories alleging top Hillary Clinton aide Huma Abedin had a connection to the Muslim Brotherhood, pushed a conspiracy theory that Sen. Marco Rubio was a closeted homosexual who abused cocaine, and repeatedly used expletives to attack Trump's political opponents.”

Flynn has got to go. Even though he doesn't require Senate approval, he is clearly a bad appointment that will weigh Trump down.

While I still have reservations about Gen. Mattis as Sec Def, Doyle McManus had an interesting opinion piece about him.  McManus writes for LA Times.

Apparently, Mattis has big differences of opinion with Trump and has no qualms about standing up to him.  In additon, Mattis outranks Flynn by one star.  Believe me, most retired officers never remove their rank psychologically.

If he has five stars on the lapels of all his suits, you'll know that is true of him.

Actually only four.  There are no five star generals, but not to say he could not place five on his lapels.

Omar Bradley (d. 1981) was last five star general.  Five star generals/admirals serve for life.  Actually correct title is General of the Army.

It appears that Trump administration will have more colonels, generals and admirals running  the country than some milirary dictatorships.

Maybe Trump can get Congress to give him a direct commission as General of the Army and Air Force and Admiral of the Navy and Marine Corps?

So Trump has picked an oil-and-gas lawyer for the head of the EPA.

And the wife of the founder of WWE wrestling as the head of small business affairs.

It gets better every day.

It is like watching reruns of The Apprentices!

I was at a screening of the new documentary by Fisher Stevens, Before the Flood (2016) tonight.  It is a follow-up to Al Gore's An Inconvenient Truth (2006) on climate change.  Fisher was there for a Q & A after the screening and had a few interesting things to say about the election.

He said that their film's producer and presenter Leonardo DiCaprio had met with Ivanka Trump to discuss climate change issues.  They were told that Trump has only a seven minute attention span and to cut their feature film down to four minutes if they wanted him to see it.

Fisher also thought that the appointment of Scott Pruitt an Oklahoma oil crony and climate change denier to head the EPA was a sure sign of where Trump was heading.  He also mentioned that the CEO of Exon was being interviewed for Secretary of State.

Trump looks set to be worse than Dubya when it comes to destroying the environment.

The film featured Marco Rubio, Ted Cruz and Mitch McConnell and showed how many millions each of them received from the fossil fuel industry backers like the Koch brothers.  Trump looks set to make that swamp a hellova lot bigger.

BTW both China and India are doing a lot more in developing clean energy than North America.  And India currently has 300 million people with no electricity whatsoever.

*Fisher also mentioned that Hillary Clinton was not particularly a climate change champion but that Bernie Sanders was the real deal.

Donald Trump announced Wednesday that he wants the Environmental Protection Agency to be run by Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt, a longtime ally of the oil and gas industry who has led litigation efforts to overturn the EPA’s rules to address climate change.

Trump picks people who hate the agencies they're going to be running and want to be rid of them.  Most of his picks are billionaires and generals.  These people don't live in the real world.  The next four years are going to be tough for people who want a clean environment, equal opportunity, public education, etc.

By the way, there was  support in the Senate for the US to use US steel for infrastructure repairs.  The Republicans in the House didn't take it up.  Where was Trump on this and his concern for American jobs?  His silence speaks volumes...

These people may think they will run the United States of America - - but the PEOPLE of America run this country and we, the PEOPLE are going to uphold the U.S. Constitution--no matter what Trump and his cohorts try to do.

Trump to name Scott Pruitt, Oklahoma attorney general suing EPA on climate change, to head the EPA

“Scott Pruitt has a record of attacking the environmental protections that EPA is charged with enforcing. He has built his political career by trying to undermine EPA’s mission of environmental protection,” said Fred Krupp,  president of the Environmental Defense Fund. “Our country needs — and deserves — an EPA administrator who is guided by science, who respects America’s environmental laws, and who values protecting the health and safety of all Americans ahead of the lobbying agenda of special interests.”

Pruitt has spent much of his energy as attorney general fighting the very agency he is being nominated to lead.

He is the third of Trump’s appointees who have key philosophical differences with the missions of the agencies they have been tapped to run. Ben Carson, named to head the Department of Housing and Urban Development, has expressed a deep aversion to the social safety net programs and fair housing initiatives that have been central to that agency’s activities. Betsy DeVos, named education secretary, has a passion for private school vouchers that critics say undercut the public school systems at the core of the government’s mission.

..and he just trotted Al Gore into Trump Tower for a lengthy meeting. This obviously was just for show. Gore right now is not a happy camper.

No offense Princess, but the people Trump is appointing and the Republicans in Congress and state governments will run this country for the most part.  They will be assisted by the corporations and the lobbyists.

I wish the people really did have more influence, but they don't.

As for upholding the Constitution, that requires court cases that will be heard before judges, mostly appointed by Republicans, and then appeals courts, mostly appointed by Republicans.  Then it goes to Supreme Court, where 5 of 9 justices will be Republican.

i see the dems are pledging to try to block Scott Pruitt's appointment to head the EPA.  Good luck.

History seems to be repeating itself.  Dubya put fossil fuel lobbyists in charge of all sorts of agencies so that they could dismantle them.  He even gave them double-speak titles that made them look like protectors of the environment.

I highly recommend this book.  It is a real eye opener to how corrupt the GOP is ...

The residents of L.A. will start to wear their gas masks again.

The worst is that thousands of communities will be faced with drinking polluted water.  People have no idea how many petroleum pipelines cross over or through waterways that are sources of drinking water.  Also, no idea how many pipelines rupture and polute ground water and nearby streams that eventually drain into the waterways used for drinking water.

His latest appointment, Andrew Puzder, CEO of Hardee's and Carl Jr's., as Sec. of Labor shows Trump's disdain for the working people who voted for him.  Puzder is opposed to any increase in minimum wage and in overtime coverage.

Working class and middle class screwed again.

If you read Robert Kennedy Jr.'s book you will discover that fossil fuel emissions are just a fraction of the problem when it comes to clean water.  The chemical dumping and run off from pig farming, etc from the elimination of regulations is literally poisoning people.
