I love languages. And you know it's never too late to learn a new language.

I learned today on the PBS that learning a new language is a good first step towards warding off Alzheimer's.

Hasta la vista!

with the cabinet picks so far, I think Trump's supporters are going to have a severe case of "buyer's remorse" sooner, rather than later.

Why?   The majority of the picks will likely try to dismantle much that was implemented in the last 7 plus years and that is the type of change Trump supporters want.

Trump's appointments and their changes will be detrimental to the rust belt voters that supported him.  This is a cabinet that will empower billionaires all the more.  That's not what they thought they were voting for.  We've had trickle down your leg from them before and it did not work.  Trump is not offering what he promised those people.  It was all a big con just to get votes.

Does the Head of EPA have to be approved by the Senate?

Not only the last seven years, but also the last 50+ years.  Just about everything since Kennedy probably.  Have to remember his choices for the most part are people who are opposed to everything that limits corporations and the super rich.

People in the cabinet and other agency heads in the past generally had government experience or had the intelligence to recognize when compromise was beneficial to all Americans, including corporations and the super rich.  Even the ones in the Nixon, Reagan and Bush I and II administrations.  Most of Trump's have none of the requisite abilities to "Make America Great."

But they do not have the intelligence to know it.

Republicans have been screwing them for decades, but they continue to vote them into office.

The big question is, when will "those people" begin to realize this?

I would say when Deep State has had enough of Donald Trump and it begins to move against him.  If he doesn't die in office first they will have to detox and deprogram his voters with the same methods that he used to bamboozle them.  But they cannot rely on the old methods of propaganda and brainwashing.  Trump circumvented traditional media.  But 'those' people were easily manipulated so it should be possible to turn the ship around through some sort of propaganda.  The Russians may be holding the trump card right now if you will pardon the pun.  What on earth could the GOP and Trump have been saying to one another during the campaign?

You know, there may have been kernels of truth in the Clinton is untrustworthy claim but just look how many people parroted that after just a short while.  People who did not do any research on Clinton.  But when asked about her the very first thing everyone said was that she was untrustworthy.  It started to sound like robotic programmed responses.  Why?  Because alt.right had hammered home that perception for years until it became the absolute truth to those people.

People usually arrive at these illogical decisions because of programming.  In the defence of the never Trump crowd I would say it his his own words that sink him, not the liberal press.  He is abhorant in every sense.

They really took to the "lock her up" mantra.

The Dems have been losing big time since 2010 at all levels.    While the lost by Clinton was the biggest one it shouldn't be viewed as just a contest between Clinton and Trump but more of between the Dems and GOP with the GOP now having control of two of the 3 branches of government and with a the death of a few more SC members all 3 soon.

The Dems lack of leadership and their feeling identity politics was the ticket to winning elections are the main reasons for their overall lack of power at all levels of government in the USA.

YES, TRUMP IS A CLOWN,  but the GOP would still control the Feds if the GOP had run someone other then Trump.

I still believe that if the Dems had run a more reasonable candidate and reached out to the working class and others, they would have won.  Overall, it was a confluence of bad decisions on the part of the Democrats.  Just as their crowning of Pelosi and the party super-elders as leaders again is a bad decision.

I guess I have misunderstood your position on this.   I recall that prior to the election you said that since there was a two-term Dem President that it was likely the GOP would win, and that the only reason they wouldn't was because they ran someone like Trump.

Of course it is rather silly to play 'what if' now,  but it was also my understanding that you felt a self described socialist like Sanders couldn't win.   Biden?    IF people voted for the GOP because of 'too many years of a Dem' it is unlikely they would have voted for Biden (just like a reason Gore lost was because he was part of the Bill Clinton admin).

I do agree that there was no one major factor that caused Hillary to lose,  but instead many 'little' ones.    But to me that still doesn't explain the Dems massive lost of power nationwide (except in CA), since 2010  (but Pelosi is a factor).

I think if they had run a younger Joe Biden type, the Dems might have won if Trump was the GOP nominee.  Neither Sanders nor Warren would have succeded.

Also if the Dem Nat Comm had gone beyond the groups they were focusing on.  Bill Clinton won by being a centrist who wanted to improve the economy.  Of course, he ran against a GOP president running for reelection.  GHW Bush did win following a two term GOP president, so it is possible.

As weak a candidate as Gore was, he would have won if the balloting (or counting) had been just a tad different in Florida.

As for what has happened nationally, the Dems really, really need to focus on that.  To me, most of it has been the abandoning of their core constituencies - the working class, the middle class and small businesses.  They have allowed the GOP to use smoke and mirrors advertising and certain issues to switch those people from Dem to GOP.  To a great extent that is what Trump did.

Does Rex Tillerson (Exxon-Mobile CEO) really have a shot at Sec. of State?  Is it maybe a smokescreen to make the reall nominee look better?

If just 3 Republican Senators and all Dem Senators oppose him, he will not be confirmed.

This Exxon Mobil Mammoth has been honored with Putin's "Order of Lenin"--

I suppose that means he represents the very best interest of the Russian government, as it corresponds to the very best interest of the oil company monopoly. Whether this is the very best interest of the American people and their European allies, I doubt it.

As for the Sierra Club, the Audubon Society and Greenpeace-- may they rest in peace.

If he doesn't handle questions well at Senate hearings, he has a real shot at being rejected. All it will take is a few Republicans---McCain, Rubio, and a couple others.

So, is that it then?  Is the Duma is complete?  When does Trump's Russian victory tour start?

Will Melania be wearing one of those Cossack pillbox hats to the inauguration?  Let's hope her batteries are all charged up.  It's probably going to be cold.

In his inauguration speech, he will for the first time admit that Josef Stalin was his boyhood hero.

Speaking of the inauguration I wonder what odds the bookies would give you that he is going to brag about grabbing p in his speech?

Or maybe Trump will lead the distinguished inauguration invitees in a rousing chorus of 'Lock Her Up'?  Or promise to pay the legal bills for anyone who punches Elizabeth Warren in the face?  Maybe they will do a simulcast with Putin in Red Square?  Will Melanie flash the crowd?

Apparently Graham is also opposed.  However, I doubt you will find the three Republicans needed to quash the appointment.
