So true. But I see the MSM doing this as well; playing the 'under their watch' card with issue (event), after event over and over again. Stock Market Up, oh man it is because of the President. Company opens a new factory, it is because of the President. Company lays off workers, it is because of the President. I really wonder when this non-nuanced binary type 'thinking' became the rage. (yea, I know the MSM has always been overly focused on the President, but NOT to this insane degree). It clearly accelerated with Bill Clinton. But Trump takes the cake for this. So as you note if he feels he deserves credit for good things (e.g. the unemployment rate), he deserves the same level for bad things. I don't credit him with much of anything. I just want him to go away.

But as you say, he likes to take selective credit and if current Afghanistan was happening under Obama's watch you can bet Trump would be pointing a finger in his direction. But as you say, he likes to take selective credit and if current Afghanistan was happening under Obama's watch you can bet Trump would be pointing a finger in his direction. In addition the type of issues a President has a lot of influence over tend to not be major news stories. E.g. deregulation that impact the environment. Unless there is a major disaster (e.g. an offshore oil spill), deregulation that has a negative impact on the environment takes place at a slow pace and that doesn't make a flashy headline. Thus my concern that the Dems will have to run a really solid overall campaign to take back the US House even with Trump getting poor approval ratings IF the economy continues to hum along like it is (which is likely according to most economist). Voters that only pay limited attention to what is going on will be pounded with the facts about job growth, low unemployment rate, wage increases (while not great they are going up), stock market, a few more dollars in their pocket due to tax reform since these type of 'indicators' are media darlings. Yea, while this has little to do with Trump or the GOP, GOP members running for Congress will run on a 'stay the course' type message. (of course tax reform is 100% on the GOP, but like environmental issues, 'slow bleeding' isn't something most voters will pay attention to).

mr6666
Trump Is the Worst Salesman America Has Ever Had The United States is more unpopular than ever before, and that’s no accident. ''...... With his “America first” mantra and his crude attacks on other countries and regions (e.g., the “shitholes” of Africa, Haiti, and El Salvador), Trump seems intent on changing America’s image abroad from largely positive to unremittingly hostile. He cares so little about this troubling trend that he is wrecking the State Department, which is supposed to represent America abroad. ..... Freedom House has just downgraded America in its annual “Freedom in the World” report. The report notes that in 2017, the United States’ “core institutions were attacked by an administration that rejects established norms of ethical conduct across many fields of activity. President Trump himself has mingled the concerns of his business empire with his role as president, appointed family members to his senior staff, filled other high positions with lobbyists and representatives of special interests, and refused to abide by disclosure and transparency practices observed by his predecessors.” Trump even attacks the bedrock principle of freedom of the press, labeling the media as the “enemy of the American people” — rhetoric that, as Sen. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) said, is reminiscent of Stalin’s. Meanwhile, Freedom House notes, the integrity of America’s political system was undermined by “growing evidence of Russian interference in the 2016 election campaign and a lack of action by the Trump administration either to condemn or to prevent a reoccurrence of such meddling.” Far from trying to stop the Russian interference, Trump seems intent on stopping any probe of what the Russians were (and are) up to." http://foreignpolicy.com/2018/01/22/trump-has-already-destroyed-americas-soft-power/?utm_content=bufferf16db&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter.com&utm_campaign=buffer
