whatta horrible movie. it ain't exactly no from here to eternity that's for sure.

not very compelling if you ask me. starts off with manie being escorted outta the town.

her character development seemed a bit to diffuse if you ask me. what is she? is she this mercenary escort determined to be loyal to stalwart writer turned soldier jimmy blair (richard egan) or what? to me neither russell or egan seemed the least bit compelling in their roles.

at least michael pate had the good sense to be low-key as atkins.

and agnes moorhead ain't exactly no jo van fleet either.

a very poor film effort.

Another disappointment is that TCM is showing a 1.33:1 pan & scan version of the film that lops off much of what the director intended, as explained in their famous letterbox short.  The TCM theatrical aspect ratio page for the film lists it at 2.35:1, so that tells you there's quite a bit that's missing.

 

A big shame since this was one of the main movies featured for the Pearl Harbor anniversary tribute.
