Just days after Pompeo lashed out at one of their hosts because he didn't like her questions, the State Department kicks a NPR reporter off his plane for his upcoming trip

that includes a stop in Ukraine, per

White House excludes CNN from annual pre-SOTU lunch with news anchors

............CNN's Anderson Cooper and Wolf Blitzer attended last year's lunch. Blitzer has been attending these lunches longer than almost any other anchor — 20 years in a row.

Journalists from other networks are still planning on attending Tuesday's session, according to sources at those networks.
This is the first time in recent memory that a president has singled out one network and opted to not invite any anchors from there.
White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham did not respond to a request for comment on Monday night. ........

1) “Tensions” did not “arise” between @NPRKelly and Sec. Pompeo. He abused her verbally and then lied about her.

2) I will believe President Trump even knows NPR exists when he gives a cruel insulting “nickname” to @NPRinskeep.

Trump wants to make us a nation of chumps
He doesn't want us to know what his former NSA was worried about...until after the election
He doesn't want us to know how much he's been costing taxpayers in travel...until after the election

Has America ever been so OBVIOUSLY played?......

now that Trump is taking over US law enforcement/intelligence to *destroy them* and letting Putin in the door *again*
and intimating he wants TV networks shut down
it's time to be *very* heated..........

There's *no reason* for the *structure* of the news to look the same today, in the midst of a historic national emergency, as it did four years ago;
U.S. media is *still covering* his racist, treacherous rants *live* rather than limiting Trump coverage to only what he *does*

When an unhinged, criminal, tyrannical monster goes on TV to spew lies and hateful neo-fascist rhetoric for the *thousandth time*,
the only reason any media outlet would cover it is *money*,
because the newsworthiness is *zero* and the harm to the country almost unfathomable"

Trump campaign sues New York Times for libel

The campaign accused the Times of harboring “extreme bias against and animosity."

".......A spokesperson for the paper pushed back forcefully against the suit and expressed confidence that the Times would ultimately prevail on First Amendment grounds.

“The Trump Campaign has turned to the courts to try to punish an opinion writer for having an opinion they find unacceptable,” the spokesperson said in a statement. “Fortunately, the law protects the right of Americans to express their judgments and conclusions, especially about events of public importance. We look forward to vindicating that right in this case.”.....

trump can't sue the Constitution. So In Absentia he tries to sue the New York Times for exercising their freedom of speech.

Donation fodder for email blasts.
Other than some pro forma work, this suit isn't actually going to be pursued.

But it's expected to turn tidy fundraising profit.

12/ Frankel is 100% correct that, by various means detailed in my books and across *hundreds* of major-media articles, Trump made sure the Kremlin fully understood his foreign policy and had access to his people even as he was *doing secret business deals with Kremlin officials*........

So yes, there was a quid pro quo in *exactly* the explicit and implicit ways that you'd expect to find it in the criminal underworld Trump has long inhabited. And Robert Mueller found collusion and evidence-tampering. And Trump was never "exonerated" of a criminal conspiracy............

Presumably, it's a PR stunt—and the second the NYT tries to demand the very same evidence Mueller found was hidden, destroyed, withheld, lied about, or otherwise obstructed, Trump will commit crimes *again* to make sure no one sees it..............

I spent two and a half years covering the WH.
MANY press conferences.

Reporters’ microphones were NEVER cut off.

But today they were - repeatedly - when tough follow up questions were asked.

So obvious.

"You're actually sitting too close," Trump said at one point. "Really, we should probably get rid of about 75, 80 percent of you.

I'll have just two or three of you that I LIKE in this room.

I think that's a great way of doing it."

Very sad that the sociopath downplayed the urgency of the coronavirus threat week after week and did little to prepare the nation's defenses against it because he was so worried about spooking his beloved stock market. As a result, many more will die than would have otherwise.

Intelligence officials reported that China appeared to be minimizing the outbreak and said swift action could be needed to contain the virus.

Despite the warnings, Trump continued to play down the threat the virus posed to Americans.

Monday appeared to mark a turning point in TV coverage of President Trump's now-daily briefings on the coronavirus outbreak. Only one of the major networks stuck it out to the end of the nearly two-hour session.

10:51 PM · Mar 23, 2020·SocialFlow

trump's lies and misleading statements during these press briefings confuses the public and it has often been contradictory  with  the opinions of medical professionals.

trump's promoting drugs which are only now being tested to fight the Coronavirus has led to several individuals taking these non-FDA approved drugs because trump spoke of them during the briefings--

One man is dead in Arizona, his wife is in critical condition and reportedly several Nigerians are also in critical condition due to their lack of understanding about trump talking about drug trials or simply his lack of  Professional Medical Knowledge while discussing the subject.

Considering how crucial public information is during a pandemic, it would be better for the media to focus on getting information from medical professionals who know what they're talking about and who do not tend to lie about the issues.

NBC and CNN producers say they're through airing Trump's virus pressers.

“We might take it from the top and then cut away after the first lie,

and return when the lies stop.”

.......... “I think the best way to handle the president in the briefing is that you handle the president like you handle the virus.
He has to be contained and quarantined
and his falsehoods have to be scrubbed so that they don’t rub off on you.”..........

1/ I want to share a bit about Fox News, advertisers, revenue and accountability. Let me first start by saying that, Fox News is actually suffering quite severely on the advertiser front. (The next chart will illustrate just how badly)...

2/ This is the number of paid ads on Tucker's show. As you can see this chart shows the average number of *paid* commercials per show. It dropped off quite severely in 2019. It *still* hasn't recovered. So what's this mean in terms of dollars?

EUZ0MoCWAAE2yCn?format=jpg&name=900x900

3/ Well: In 2017, Tucker's show generated about $100M in advertising revenue for Fox News. If you took all of the ad revenue that Tucker's show generated in 2018 and 2019, the combined amount is less than what Tucker's show earned in 2017 alone. It's easily a 75-80M loss..........

5/ So, how is that Fox News could lose all of that advertising revenue and still not be forced to make major changes. Well, surprise surprise, Fox News cheats. And we all basically subsidize Fox News as a result of that cheating.

7/ Every TV channel charges cable providers a fee for carrying channel set during negotiations. This is a subscriber fee. Provider pays this fee for each customer they have, not viewer of channel. Providers bundle channels into packages and pass costs to subscribers...........

9/ The effect? News & info channels’ subscriber fees are normally small. MSNBC gets ~$0.33, CNN gets between $0.70-0.90 per month (and includes CNN and CNN Headline News). In contrast,

Fox News charges near or over $2 a month. This is wildly out of step with industry averages......

12/ Right now, Fox News is in midst of renegotiating more than 65% of all their cable provider contracts. Try to increase as much as 75%.

That would mean Fox goes up to more than $3/month. If we say nothing, this happens. Fox gets even more money despite being extra destructive..............

15/ b) Cable Fees -- Tell cable providers to stop forcing all of us to pay Fox News such a wildly inflated amount fee, let even consider jacking that up as much as they are trying.

Make Fox News actually rely on ads for revenue, watch how fast they change.......

20/ Fox News' misinformation actively harms us all. This is a moment of real reckoning for Fox, if we chose to act. I share the advertiser info to show it matters

and that Fox will literally throw away hundreds of millions of dollars to advance its political interests............

74 journalism professors accuse Fox News of spreading coronavirus misinformation

Dozens of journalism professors and working journalists signed an open letter to Fox News heads Rupert and Lachlan Murdoch on Thursday, bashing the network's coverage of the coronavirus pandemic as a "danger to public health."

"Viewers of Fox News, including the president of the United States, have been regularly subjected to misinformation relayed by the network—false statements downplaying the prevalence of COVID-19 and its harms;

misleading recommendations of activities that people should undertake to protect themselves and others,

including casual recommendations of untested drugs;

false assessments of the value of measures urged upon the public by their elected political leadership and public health authorities," the letter reads........

"Inexcusably, Fox News has violated elementary canons of journalism. In so doing, it has contributed to the spread of a grave pandemic," the end of the letter reads.

"Urgently, therefore, in the name of both good journalism and public health, we call upon you to help protect the lives of all Americans—including your elderly viewers—by ensuring that the information you deliver is based on scientific facts." .........

With Kayleigh McEnany, the White House Isn’t Even Pretending the Truth Matters

Only in the most broken of systems would Kayleigh McEnany get to be White House press secretary, but that’s where we are

".........The briefing had been mocked from the Day One declaration that Supreme God Trump had assembled the largest gathering in the history of the world to honor his ascension to the crown, of course.

But Kayleigh marks the apotheosis of a progression from career party hacks Sean Spicer and Sarah Huckabee Sanders to accomplished businessman-****-TV personality Anthony Scaramucci to ghost of Christmas present Stephanie Grisham/Griswold/Grinnell (who could remember) to a person who has absolutely no qualification for the job or interest in doing it in the spirit it was intended whatsoever.........

She blazed the path to the podium on the back of her experience as an internet troll turned cable news pundit. (Fun fact: McEnany was rejected by Fox before getting scooped up by CNN’s Jeff Zucker who was looking for a new “character in a drama” — his words — who was willing to defend Donald Trump on the network. And what a character she has become).

In this way, and others, her elevation mirrors that of her boss.

In her supporting role on CNN’s production of “The Orange King,” McEnany has learned from Trump’s approach to public relations: discard all modesty in paeans to the Trump brand and admit no wrongdoing, no matter the absurd lengths required to do so........

Amid the pandemic though — at a time when more than ever it is critical that the press secretary serves all of the constituents and speaks honestly about what they should be doing to stay safe and how to plan for the choppy waters ahead

— the **** charade goes from preposterous to dangerous. Lives hang in the balance. Going back to at least acting as if we believe that it matters seems like it would be an improvement."
