slaytonf
Well, it took about a year for it to get here from when I last saw it scheduled, but it's worth the wait. A really fun action/adventure movie with just about every convention from the genre you'd want to see in it, including, fights, chases, plot surprises, intrigue, and not one, not two, but three-count 'em-three MacGuffins. Jean-Paul Belmondo has about the most physically demanding role for for any actor ever, playing a French airman on leave, coming to Paris to visit his sweetie, only to see her kidnapped right in front of him. He sets out on an extravagant chase, which turns back and forth from him being the chaser and the chased, spanning cities, jungles, oceans, and continents. It's no wonder why he not only endures it, but enthusiastically pursues it when you consider his sweetie is Françoise Dorléac, never more charming and engaging. Along the way we also get Adolfo Celi, slices of the Rio scene, shots of Brasilia, that master exhibit of modern architecture, under construction. Airs tomorrow, 10:30 a. m., Pacific time.
jakeem
i'm still hoping that TCM schedules a prime-time tribute to Françoise Dorléac. She was killed in a vehicular accident near Nice, France on June 26, 1967 -- almost 50 years ago. It's still difficult for her sister, actress Catherine Deneuve, to talk about her. Belmondo and Dorléac teamed up for "That Man from Rio" (1964)
slaytonf
Yes, a great loss. But I'm grateful for what we have of her work, especially for something else coming up also as part of TCM's Oscar-by-the-letters. But I'll give a heads-up about that later.
