Zeugitai
In 2012, I watched Mark Cousins present his The Story of Film: An Odyssey on TCM. TCM at the same time played several of the films mentioned in the documentary, one of which was a classic film from India. I have been trying and trying to remember it and find it to see it again, but failed. It was in black and white, probably from the late 50s or early 60s. It was a long story about life alongside a river as times changed for the worse. It was visually very striking and it left many indelible images in my mind. I am hoping that someone can help me identify this film. FYI: After much searching (!) I found it: Titas Ekti Nadir Naam (Bengali: তিতাস একটি নদীর নাম), or A River Called Titas, is a 1973 film directed by Ritwik Ghatak.
Sgt_Markoff
That sounds like an installment of the Apu trilogy by Satyajit Ray. India's greatest auteur. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Satyajit_Ray
