Syrian, Iraqi forces say U.S. bombs military border positions, U.S. denies

BEIRUT (Reuters) - Syrian state media said on Monday that U.S.-led coalition aircraft had bombed a Syrian army position near the Iraqi border, causing deaths and injuries, but the U.S. military denied it was responsible.

The attack took place in al-Harra, southeast of the town of Albu Kamal, state news agency SANA said, citing a military source. SANA said the attack caused an unspecified number of deaths and injuries.

A commander in the alliance fighting alongside Damascus told Reuters that drones that were “probably American” had bombed the positions of Iraqi factions between Albu Kamal and Tanf, as well as Syrian military positions.

The commander, who is not Syrian and spoke on condition of anonymity, said the strike had killed and injured some Iraqi fighters but he did not give any numbers.

Iraq’s Popular Mobilisation Forces, a grouping of mostly Iran-backed Shi’ite paramilitaries, said a U.S. air strike on the Iraqi border with Syria killed 22 of its members and wounded 12 others.

Sara Netanyahu, Israeli Prime Minister's Wife, Is Charged With Fraud

......Both of the Netanyahus have been the subject of scrutiny by Israeli authorities. Police are investigating allegations of corruption against the prime minister, who has been accused of trading favors for bribes from wealthy businessmen. ....

For years, she has been accused of leading an extravagant lifestyle.

Benjamin Netanyahu had said those accusations would prove to be unfounded; he called the probe into his own activities a "media witch hunt.".....

After U.S., Israel Also Backs Away From UN Human Rights Body

Geneva (AP) -- Diplomats said Friday that Israel has temporarily reduced its participation with the U.N.'s main human rights body, days after the United States pulled out largely over its allegation that the Human Rights Council is biased against Israel.

The diplomats in Geneva, speaking on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the matter publicly, said Israel had "lowered" its participation at the council to align its stance more with the U.S. position.

The diplomats cautioned that the move was not definitive and could change from day to day. Israel is not one of the council's 47 member states, but has participated like most other countries as an observer.

Rolando Gomez, a spokesman for the council, confirmed that Israel was not participating in the council plenary Friday, where its seat sat empty. Israeli diplomats have not participated since a council discussion Thursday on discrimination against women.

Erekat Accuses U.S. of Trying to Overthrow Palestinian Authority

A top Palestinian official accused the U.S. of trying to overthrow Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, in an attempt to discredit an American peace mission it is shunning.

The West Bank-based Palestinian Authority broke off contact with the U.S. in December over its Jerusalem policy, and has not been party to the meetings that negotiators Jared Kushner and Jason Greenblatt have conducted with Middle East leaders this week. The envoys are trying to drum up support for the Palestinian economy, and especially the Hamas-run Gaza Strip, reasoning that greater prosperity will create more conducive conditions for peacemaking.

The FBI Is Using Unvetted, Right-Wing Blacklists to Question Activists About Their Support for Palestine

....Some of these interviews have rested on blacklists created by far-right, pro-Israel groups, and focused on alleged and unproven connections to militant groups in the Middle East. The Intercept has learned of four such interviews (though the number could be higher), two of which took place this year.

In two of the interviews, including Aburas’s, the FBI referenced Canary Mission, an anonymously run, right-wing website that compiles dossiers on activists who organize for Palestinian human rights on U.S. college campuses, claiming — without evidence — that the students have ties to terrorism in an effort to make them unemployable....

What is behind Jared Kushner's latest Middle East tour?

The Trump administration is struggling to secure political support for the 'ultimate deal'.

".........According to several leaks, Trump's "ultimate deal" would include recognising Jerusalem as the united capital of Israel, no removal of Israeli settlements from the West Bank, and no return of the Palestinian refugees to their land.

In addition, the deal allegedly foresees Israel retaining control of the Jordan valley and the borders with Jordan. What the Palestinians get is financial support for development projects in Gaza, especially in energy, to alleviate the humanitarian crisis there.

For the PA the deal is a non-starter...........

So you want the USA to get involved in regime change in yet another middle-east nation?

After the mess that was caused in Iraq and Libya (as well as Syria with the dismal failed attempt),  you want more of that?

Also,  should the USA take in Iranian war refuges?    THAT would be backing them up!

Regime change is what caused the migrant crisis in the first place. Destroy Iran and all those Iranians will flood into Europe.

No,  the great President Trump will allow all of those Iranian migrants to seek refuge in the USA.

What,  you don't believe that!

US aid cut to Palestinian refugees is endangering food, medical and education services, UNRWA says

WASHINGTON’S much-reduced contribution to funds caring for Palestinian refugees is endangering food, medical and education services, says United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) director Pierre Krahenbuhl.

UNRWA provides basic services for five million Palestinian refugees in the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, Jordan, Lebanon and Syria.

The US was previously the biggest UNRWA donor, giving $364 million (£275m) to the agency last year but only $60m (£45m) this year.

“The situation of Palestinians is defined by great anxiety and uncertainty, first because Palestinian refugees do not see a solution to their plight on the horizon,” said Mr Krahenbuhl in New York on Monday.

UN secretary-general Antonio Guterres tweeted to say that UNRWA is about helping Palestinian refugees building a foundation of dignity and hope for the future.

I don't think the USA should contribute any funds to UNRWA until Hamas formally recognizes Israel's right to exist.   (and I'm not a supporter of Israel).
