spence
Mot here are well aware of the almost as famous s Oscar annual AFI-(American Film Institute-(est 1967-) It was establised in '67 with Oscar victor Gregory Peck as it's first chairman & has moved numerous time since (Greystone Mansion/Park) & 0n my last 2 trips to what was once an empire called HOLLYWOOD, which is mainly now for us Golden Age fans just a state of mind. it started to backslide in the mid to late '69's unfortunately. & on shows like TMZ they have to explain which celebrity is thesedays. Not exactly the day of Cary Grant any longer!? Anyway, each recipient must accept the award in person, unlike an Oscar Likely reason no Kate, Brando, Garbo, Woody Allen But the always craggy John Ford accepted the 1st in 1973 & on that note The Great Tracy was gone the year they started in '67, but knowing him & at that age he woulda scoffed art going But who you think truly deserved the AFI award that woulda' been present? For me: Sir Charles (Spencer) Chaplin John Wayne-obviously his outspoken politics, even then kept him down a lot. EXAMPLE: In '99's 100yrs/.100 Stars they voted him all the way down at #13?) Cary Grant-(the hipocrysy that the voted #2 all-time male star too!?) Bob Hope Ginger Rogers & Robert Mitchum Don't know if Howard Hawks woulda' accepted it, he got more bitter the older he got? & like the utterly shameful display by the ACADEMY, Peter 0'Toole is yet another (P.S. Certainly hope next yrs-(This yr id Diane Keaton) goes to Robert Duvall, or Hopkins) Edited March 31, 2017 by spence
