Spencer...nicely researched and presented. Thanks! For someone living on Social Security Disability of $552 per month, seeing that all of these stars were making well over twice this amount even in the 30's is somewhat disturbing. That so many film actors and sports professionals can "demand" $1 million to do their jobs these days seems outrageously disgusting to me. What a country we live in, huh?

Clark Gable deserved the overtime for "The Misfits" since the film just about cost him his life.

Also where is Barbara Stanwyck's data since she was the highest paid woman in America in 1944? It should be interesting.

To classicsfan 1119, I agree with you pally 100per cent concerning the disparity in paying,etc! Excellent point. & to mongo, I think it is? I just have a lil' on TCM Host Robert 0sborne's #1 all-time favorite movie actress: Barbara Stanwyck-(1907-90) & the amount of $$$ she made-(CHECK OUT A SUPERB SITE, that also has a section of many on it, that also includes what I wrote here, but in more detail>(www.ELIZABETH@reelclassics.com)

But I do have Stanwyck making $92,000 from Paramount Pictures for 1939. & then $90,000 from Columbia & $100,000 from Warner Bros. WB both for (1941)

Actually *Cagney was just about the very 1st star to go on strike & whenever Jack L. Warner-(1892-1978) & he would start to argue-(Warner was getting tions more dough then *Jim & most & *Cagney was working 16hrs. a day those earliest days of the 1930's! But he'd just break-into "Yiddish slang," that he picked up from the streets of NYC & Warner would get so frustrated, he'd give-in. (P.S. at his 1974 AFI Award they gave *James Cagney, he was recalling his former mogul/boss of WB. & J.L. nicknamed him "The Professional Againster")

Mongo, do you also agree with me that *"The King: Clark Gable" Gave the performance of his career/lifetime in cinema in that final & released posthumously film "The Misfits" (***1/2-out of 4) I thought he was robbed of a posthumous nom. Here is whom was nominated 1961 OSCARS for Best Actor:

*Maximilian Schell in "Judgment at Nuremberg"-(He won, but *Newman deserved-it. In my opinion anyhow)

Charles Boyer, "Fanny"-(this & or below Whitman slot shoulda' been *"The King!" in "Misfits")

Paul Newman in "The Hustler"

Spencer Tracy, "Judgment at Nuremberg"

& Stuart Whitman, "The Mark"


Also *Cagney in what is about a tie as the fastest dialogue ever in screen history, with: "His Girl Friday" (1940) & *James Cagney ignored for "0ne, Two, Three"
