:D Yes, ladies, I read that Georgie was rather famous for his chest----it came to be a

given that any movie he appeared in he had to take his shirt off at least once. O'Brien

liked to joke ever after that whenever he was being considered for a part he automatically

took off his shirt. It's funny because I first saw him as the quiet man in John Ford movies,

the one who's connection to the leading character was rather mysterious---then I saw Three

Bad Men and The Iron Horse and saw how he would be a natural for action hero type of

movies.

This is supposedly George with Pappy in their gadabout days. It doesn't look like

George to me, but that's what the caption said (also a rare smiling shot of the

director):

Hi cinemafan! I think I saw one of those pictures by accident while I was searching for

cowboy pix of George---wow, let's just say it was the naked truth. :0 Very well put

together guy, though, I have to admit.

You mean the later Ford films vs. the earlier ones?

Was he? I'm still getting a fix on who Tyler is/looks like...I'll have to "google" him...

Oh yes that is George O'Brien alright. The picture came from his son Darcy. Darcy used it to illustrate an article about Ford and his father's friendship entitled "John Ford and George O'Brien: a long voyage home" published in the Recorder, the journal of the American Irish society. It was taken during the trip both of them took to the Far East in 1931.

If you'd like to see some other shots of George, take a look at this site:

Olive and George became girlfriend and boyfriend during the making of Three Bad Men. There are lots of shots of George here as well - check out the Fig Leaves shots!

Hi Miss Goddess,

Here is the citation:

Darcy O'Brien,

Jack Ford and George O'Brien: A Long Voyage Home

The Recorder - the Journal of the American Irish Historical Society v.9 issue 2, Fall, 1996 pp.6-25

Getting it would probably require an ILL. It is not online. I have a copy and would send it to you but I don't know how to get in touch with you!

It's a great article by the way.

Hi Miss Goddess and Bronxie, Glad to be of help! George and Olive both had pretty good figgers didn't they? Olive always said later on that 3 Bad Men was her favorite movie - I think you can see some of why in those pictures!

Here are a couple of candid shots from Ft. Apache - I love them!
