FredCDobbs
This film should have been titled "No Action in the Pacific". The biggest action and crisis so far has been Walter Brennan bumping his head.
hlywdkjk
Well, maybe it was just true - at the time. *Stand By For Action* ("The Mightiest Naval Drama Of All Time.") was released in 1942. *They Were Expendable* ("One Of The Greatest Films Of All Time") doesn't appear until 1945. But neither one came out with a "great" poster. That is indisputable. Kyle In Hollywood

Minya
Kyle, *Thank God It's Friday* is on TCM in primetime and yet it did not merit a poster of the day? EXPLANATION, PLEASE!!
hlywdkjk
*"EXPLANATION, PLEASE!!"* - M'Lady Minya Well, for one, I never understood why *Thank God It's Friday* was part of a "Motown" event. All the artists and music were on a different record label. (I don't think Casablanca Records was part of the Motown Family of labels.) And the disco music in the film wasn't even Good disco music. *The Wiz* would have been an improvement to the schedule. Or *Bingo Long Traveling All-Stars* or *Mahogany*. Now, a TCM evening of *Thank God It's Friday*, *Roller Boogie*, *Can't Stop The Music* and *Xanadu* would definitely cause me to rethink the slight I've given to *TGIF*. But mostly, I really liked the poster for *Lady Sings The Blues* which I passed on posting during "31 Days...". It is really nice and a much better image than the U.S. version. But maybe for TCM Underground. Speaking of Xanadu-a few months ago, some of the friends I have movie nights with subjected me to Mamma Mia. It made me want to poke my own eyes out. I retaliated by making them watch Xanadu (which is a guilty pleasure of mine).

JackFavell
Wow, I love that, a super gorgeous poster. They captured Wendy Hiller so perfectly. One would never know it was actually a Shaw comedy .... but I'd still like to see the movie that poster is about. patful
Wow, that poster makes me want to fight...or join the Salvation Army...or build weapons. Stunning. *The only music I've ever played is the radio.* :-) I don't say this often, but Go cowboys! .

fredbaetz
Interesting to see Rex Harrison as Adolphus Cusins in G.B.Shaw's "Major Barbara" with Stanley Holloway as the policeman who escorts Rex across the street when he first sees Barbara in 1941 and 23 years later we have Rex as Professor Henry Higgens in G.B.Shaw's "Pygmalion" {My Fair Lady} to Stanley Holloway's Alfred Doolittle..... DougieB
I think Walter means it's like the Cliff Notes version of The Kinsey Report on campus. I don't know their history : Were Steve and Jayne married already, or is this when they met? And, of course, Mamie is a plus in ANYTHING.
HollywoodGolightly
I agree she's a big plus in just about everything - but much more so in a TCM Underground movie.

HollywoodGolightly
A very stylish poster for one of the Master's best thrillers. Not sure if the yellow was supposed to be like that all along or if it has faded a little bit, but nonetheless there's some very nice use of color there.
