Immigration Policy?

Recommended Posts

A recent political cartoon in the Detroit Free Press had the image of three small children lying on the cold concrete floor of a kennel looking type cage and one child saying....

"The Americans are treating us like DOGS."  and another replying....

"They have LAWS against treating dogs like THIS!"

And not obsessively following all the election hooplah, I'm not sure of the name of the woman candidate that claimed immigration policies that take children away from their parents is "kidnapping", and the way the children are being treated is nothing short of CHILD ABUSE.  "We put people who do this in JAIL in this country!" I think I heard her say.  Well, can't much disagree with any of that.

1/ We got our hands on screenshots from a secret FB group for current and former Border Patrol agents.

They joke about migrant deaths, including the death of a teen in their care,

and post racist, sexist memes.

Here's what we found.......

......"These comments and memes are extremely troubling,” said Daniel Martinez, a sociologist at the University of Arizona in Tucson who studies the border. “They’re clearly xenophobic and sexist.”

The postings, in his view, reflect what “seems to be a pervasive culture of cruelty aimed at immigrants within CBP. This isn’t just a few rogue agents or ‘bad apples.’”.......

- Children, families remained in extreme overcrowded conditions.

-30% of kids were in processing centers (usually no beds, just floor) longer than 72 hrs.

- That’s against US rules.

- Kids at three facilities had no access to showers.

See toddler in left of this photo.

Border agency knew about secret Facebook group for years

Border Patrol leadership knew about photos posted to the group as far back as 2016, when agents reported them, according to a DHS official.

....the “I’m 10-15” Facebook group posted as recently as last week mocked the death of a 16-year-old detained Guatemalan migrant, made bigoted remarks about throwing a burrito at two Latina congresswomen, and posted obscene and misogynistic illustrations of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.). The group’s name refers to the code used to signal “aliens in custody.”

Top Homeland Security Department officials, including acting DHS Secretary Kevin McAleenan and Border Patrol Chief Carla Provost, denounced those posts this week and pledged to hold any culpable agents accountable.

“Reporting this week highlighted disturbing & inexcusable social media activity that allegedly includes active Border Patrol personnel,” McAleenan wrote.........

Border Patrol Agents Tried to Delete Racist and Obscene Facebook Posts.

We Archived Them.

"...The scrubbing began quickly. At 10:55 a.m., ProPublica published a story reporting the existence of a secret, invitation-only Facebook group for current and former Border Patrol agents that featured vulgar, violent, and misogynistic content directed at migrants and lawmakers.

A little over two hours later, Rep. Bennie G. Thompson, chair of the House Committee on Homeland Security, called for active-duty agents responsible for the posts to lose their jobs.......

But the archived group, the version that investigators might examine, was not the same one that existed prior to the ProPublica article. ....

Anybody trying to look further into “I’m 10-15” after reading the ProPublica article would never see the Washington Post article that a poster named Bobby Matthews shared about asylum officers raising concerns about the administration’s “Remain in Mexico” policy. Matthews wrote “**** liberal traitors” and “more lies from the tonks” — using Border Patrol slang for migrants, referring to the sound a flashlight makes when it connects with a migrant’s skull —

the Border Patrol group was a hotbed for the kind of right-wing memes and anti-immigrant hate common in some corners of the internet. The only difference is that the group — which had nearly 10,000 members at the time it was exposed and has since dwindled to a little over 4,000 — was meant to be used by current and former federal law enforcement personnel. .........

Posts on the “I’m 10-15” group routinely fantasized about violent or deadly action that could be taken against migrants. ..........

A Crime by Any Name

The Trump administration’s commitment to deterring immigration through cruelty has made horrifying conditions in detention facilities inevitable.

"....... Such were the conditions of the Confederate prisoner-of-war camp at Andersonville, Georgia, where, as the historian James McPherson wrote, 13,000 of the 45,000 men imprisoned “died of disease, exposure, or malnutrition.” The images of the captive, emaciated Union troops are shocking, evoking a form of suffering 21st-century viewers will likely associate with the Holocaust.

The images so traumatized the Northern public that after the war, the warden of the prison, Henry Wirz, became one of the only people tried for war crimes..........

Andersonville is seen by many scholars as a “harbinger of the civilian concentration camps that soon followed.” Concentration camps antedate the Holocaust by many decades, having been used by the Spanish in Cuba, the British in South Africa, and both sides in World War I. Pitzer identified concentration camps, in short, as “places of forced relocation of civilians into detention on the basis of group identity.” They are often created as a kind of collective punishment, although she noted,

“Rarely have governments publicly acknowledged the use of camps as deliberate punishment.” Detainees, she wrote, are “typically held because of their racial, cultural, religious, or political identity, not because of any prosecutable offense—

The journalist Jonathan Katz argued in May that given the intent behind these facilities, and the conditions that migrants are being held in, they are best described as a concentration-camp system in the United States. ....

“There were definitely parts of the Obama program that did similar—and, in fact, some of the same—things,” said Chris Rickerd, a policy counsel at the ACLU. “But this all-encompassing skepticism of asylum seekers fleeing violence—justifying cruel treatment, justifying changes in the law, and justifying overcrowding to the point of unsafe and deadly conditions—[is] of a scale and a type that we haven’t seen before.” .......

If these facilities even vaguely resemble concentration camps, then American society has failed in ways many Americans do not want to contemplate. That resemblance would cast the Republican Party and its president as the perpetrators of an act of historic villainy. .........

Demographics are not destiny, unless you make them so. A conservatism that appeals almost exclusively to white people, and views nonwhites as an existential threat, is not worth fighting for. ....

I agree;  ICD should give no warnings.   Just deport them.

OH,  and the ones being deported are those that had hearings (many multiple ones), and their request were denied.  They were released to relatives so they could get things together and self-deport (as they promised to do).  They didn't,  so now they must be found and removed.

AGAIN:  I ASK:   If the above illegal immigrants should NOT be deported who should?  I.e. what is the criteria,  IF ANY,   for deportation?

ICE is reportedly set to target more than 2,000 recently arrived migrant families in at least 10 U.S. cities starting Sunday.

Here's how leaders and activists in those cities are preparing immigrant communities:

"....The operations, which would be along the same lines as the one cancelled last month, are expected to take place in at least 10 cities across the U.S. and last for days.

According to reports, ICE is prepared to target more than 2,000 recently arrived migrant families — most of whom do not have criminal histories.

The raids will be conducted over multiple days. Denver Mayor Michael Hancock reported they will go on through July 18, and they will include "collateral deportations," meaning undocumented migrants who happen to be on the scene but are not the intended target, could also be subject to detention......

Mayor Lori Lightfoot, who has been a vocal critic of the Trump administration's immigration plans, said she is ensuring the Chicago Police Department will not cooperate with ICE in any way.

"That means that they will not team up with ICE to detain any resident. We have also cut off ICE access from any CPD databases and that will remain permanent," Lightfoot announced at a news conference Thursday.

But local immigrant rights advocates have noted existing loopholes allow for ICE to call on the police department's help. As WBEZ's Hunter Clauss reported, "Chicago cops can assist ICE agents if an individual is in the city's gang database, is a felon, faces a felony prosecution or has an outstanding criminal warrant."........

Notice how the above hints that Dems are for open-borders;   Why?  Because it mentions that some of those that will be deported don't have criminal records.    This implies that ONLY those that have criminal records  should be deported.    If ONLY those with criminal records should be deported,  that means that there isn't any need for an asylum hearing, since if the request is denied (like it was for these individuals) nothing happens anyway (I.e. they get to stay).

All I ask is the Dems are honest when it comes to how they wish to handle illegal immigrants.  Hey,  if you wish to grant amnesty to ALL that are here,  as well as allow anyone that wishes to come in,  to do so,   just say so!

Man attacks immigrant detention center in Washington state, found dead after police shooting

The man threw incendiary devices and tried to ignite a large propane tank next to a Tacoma detention center that holds up to about 1,500 migrants.

A day before the Trump administration was set to conduct mass roundups of undocumented immigrants around the U.S., a man threw incendiary devices at an immigrant detention center in Washington state and was later found dead at the scene after police opened fire.

A man identified by authorities as Willem Van Spronsen, 69, of Vashon Island had set a vehicle outside the Tacoma Northwest Detention Center on fire and attempted to ignite a large propane tank next to the building, police said.

He was armed with a rifle and had flares, Tacoma police said.

He was armed with a rifle and had flares, Tacoma police said.

Four officers responded to the incident Saturday morning at 4 a.m. after an employee reported that “a male outside the facility was armed with a rifle,” police said.

Moments later, officers reported that shots had been fired. Spronsen was then found dead.

The shooting took place about six hours after a peaceful rally in front of the detention center, Tacoma Police spokeswoman Loretta Cool said. She said another rally was planned for Saturday afternoon, but it would have to be held in a different location because authorities are still investigating the incident with the man.

Friday’s tour showed vividly, to politicians and the media, how well run and clean the children’s detention centers are. Great reviews! Failing @nytimes story was FAKE! The adult single men areas were clean but crowded - also loaded up with a big percentage of criminals......

.....Sorry, can’t let them into our Country. If too crowded, tell them not to come to USA, and tell the Dems to fix the Loopholes - Problem Solved!
