stlgal38
Oh, (if Mongo's wrong), the correct answer just came to me while I was doing dishes!!
stellabluegrl
OH!! I think I know what it is too (if Mongo doesn't have it, that is)!! You have first dibs on the answer stlgal. At this point I just want to know if I'm right!
feaito
The winner is Mongo!!!...but you didn't respect the rules of the game and should have waited until another clue (chuckles) Congrats...
stellabluegrl
I was thinking it might have been All the Fine Young Cannibals.....I always get that one and Suddenly Last Summer mixed up...
stlgal38
Thanx Stella, but I was gonna say "Spellbound" anyway! *S* Congrats, Mongo!
feaito
Girls.....Sincerely I thought that especially "the outrageous elevator" clue, would give it away...'cos that movie's scene always kept lingering in my mind!!....Kate Hepburn, dressed up as for a party, very elegant, coming down from the third or second floor of her big mansion....in that huge, strange, elevator,,,especially devised, for a sort of "gran entrance"...just as a regal queen sitting on throne inside of a sort o gilded cage....comin "down" to his subjects' level....I love that movie...it's so bizarre....so Tennessee Williams (under the Production Code!) classicsfan1119
Yup...I had the right answer this time too. That movie is hard to forget if you've ever seen it.
stlgal38
Well "Spellbound" also had Hitch's cameo coming off of an elevator. The only hint I couldn't correlate was "beach" - and I think they may have even went by a beach when they were on the lam. I never saw a game go to 8 or 9 clues (length in playing) and still be applicable to TWO films! Great going feaito!
feaito
Thanks for the compliment Stlgal.....at the beginning I did had to go until the 15th? or even 21th clue, sometimes!...remember Midnight, or The Rains Came...and it's really exhausting, beacause you have to keep "inventing" or "making up"...more & more clues, and try them to be more evident...I really prefer to arrive maximum (people guessing before)until the 10th clue,...although someone made the point the other day, that the game being 21 film questions, that shouldn't be "dramatic" to arrive to the 17th or 21st clue, ...well that's my opinion...for the person who's givin' the clues, is sort of tiring to have to think, and think ...(Chuckles)...In all (again), I really like that participants can guess before the 10th clue....maybe some guessers have fun to continue & continue, clue after clue...it also may be fun too....somes I know don't like it... Well, after this long post I wanted to tell you Stlgal, that the beach scene that also "lingered" in my mind...was when Liz Taylor was in the sea with that white bathing suit.....to "attract" those guys and boys from that "mediterranean" beach, she was on vacation with her gay cousin, as a bait for him...and she comes out of the sea and lays on the sand....it was a striking scene for me, 'cos I was so young when i first saw the movie...and then came the sort "cannibalistic" weird killing of her cousin, with lots of boys and guys running after him...that one was really hard to forget too...pretty scary...I was just a boy...and didn't understand well what was going on....why this happened? (At that time of my life...being 11 or sth)....
feaito
By the way hope Mongo takes his turn in this game today....having guessed correctly the film yesterday...Mongo, we're waiting for you...
stlgal38
Oh you're right "Suddenly" fits like a glove - it's just that so many clues in to the game and I'm still thinking of another title. Kind of odd. I agree about a game going on too long. I also prefer it to be guessed by #10 (in my personal opinion). I also like these "after-game synopses" - gives a lot of insight into what the cluegiver was thinking and is not so abrupt to just delve in to a new game. Mongo owes us two turns actually. It would be interesting to tally up all the people who owe us games and deferred their turn at the time. I think path40a also owes one or two. bansi4
I promise to pop in today to take a turn at the game. Just to let you know that I have tried on several occasions to play after I guessed a question and it took over an hour for the player to post another question. Case in point when I guessed correctly "The Bride of Frankenstein" the response came about 3 hours later. I'll be back this afternoon to play since I do enjoy this game. stellabluegrl
First of all, I'm VERY new to this game (as most of you know) so it's probably not my place to make a suggestion on how it should be played; but me being the big mouth I am...I thought maybe I could offer up some suggestions. Feel free to blow me off...like I said, I understand I'm the new kid on the block. That being said, I do understand Mongo's frustration. Waiting forever to see if your guess was correct is a bit frustrating. Maybe the person who is asking the questions should let us know that they will be "away" for awhile. Something like "Well, I'm not going to be back till this afternoon to see if anyone got it right....". That way we can all stop running to the puter like idiots for hours. Same goes for the person who takes a guess. If they aren't going to be around for the answer, maybe they could say something like, "I think the answer may be ____.....but I won't be around for awhile to see if I'm right so feel free to start another round (if I'm correct) or ya'll can wait till I get back.....". As I said....I know I'm going way out on a limb by saying all this; but I've been noticing some tension in the air and I thought maybe this might be a way to stop it
Guest
Hi Stella. There was a time when this game was conducted at a machine gun's pace, but we've backed off a few notches lately. I think some would prefer it that way. I don't which is better myself, you might very be right...
Guest
I left out the word "it" after "backed" and "know" after "don't".
feaito
Good Point Stella...no big mouth at all...'cos sometimes we've got the time to hang in...and other times we've got urgent stuff to do...and cannot post....i.e.: I've got two or more hours difference with most of you...Now It's 12:06 pm...right here..and at sometimes it's difficult for me to keep going (I try hard, though), because of, lunch time, too much work, the other day there was a huge blackout, etc.......but Stella is right, one must tell that he's goin' away or else... stlgal38
I, three, am in agreement. My personal parameter is 30-45 minutes. If I'm clue-giver, I feel guilty about people constantly refreshing (like Stella says) if I don't announce that.
classicsfan1119
I have almost completely given up on playing this game because I simply do not have the time to wait for up to three hours for the next clue or answer so that the round can continue. I had the right answer yesterday, but by having to wait and come back later, someone else had come back sooner and answered it correctly. I feel that when we were doing what Antar calls "rapid fire" playing, the rounds were moving faster and more people were playing because the game was progressing and someone was always here. I miss never being able to play now that it's being played over the course of hours between clues and answers. I check in frequently during the day, but the game always is stalled, waiting for something to happen or someone to show up.
path40a
I'm afraid I might be guilty, in part, for the "tension" associated with this game. After an initially furious pace, particularly late last week (?), the game "tailed off" to nothing and I tried to "revive" it by posting that the game is still fun and can still be played at a slower pace ... that it was O.K. by me if a clue stayed out there for a while etc.. Well, I like the game both ways. I love to play coffeedan's trivia but find one question or "test" per day (even two) to not be enough on some days that I've got a lot of free time;-) And, when I'm free, I like to get clues and guess every 10 minutes or so. In either case, let's not let this game die, O.K.? Also, since I will have spotty availability today, I will NOT be a cluegiver at this time. Anyone else want to start a game? ... now that we're all in agreement;-)
classicsfan1119
I'm reluctant to start a new round because I don't want to have to sit here staring at the screen for the rest of the morning so that the movie can be solved, or I can give the next clue. Guest
I'm going to try to get things moving a little. You might not, however, care for my choice of a film... Hint #1:? Prone to causing explosions
