DownGoesFrazier
Sounds like Groucho. I can't place the film.

phroso
It's Groucho, but it's not HORSE FEATHERS, although Kalmar and Ruby DID write the song score.

phroso
DUCK SOUP is correct. Groucho says the line to Margaret Dumont, who is not in HORSE FEATHERS. Nice work, finance. The thread is yours . . .

daneldorado
This must be David Niven, who won Best Actor for "Separate Tables" (1958). Cheers, Dan
DownGoesFrazier
Correct, Dan. Your thread.
daneldorado
Thanks, fi. How about this one: "We'd sit outside and have a drink, and I'd think how much she looked like her. And afterwards, she'd lie in my arms and I could almost fool myself into thinking it was her." Who said that, and in what film? Cheers, Dan
daneldorado
Still no guesses? Okay, here's a clue: The quote is spoken by a male actor. The quote, again: "We'd sit outside and have a drink, and I'd think how much she looked like her. And afterwards, she'd lie in my arms and I could almost fool myself into thinking it was her." Who said that, and in what film? Cheers, Dan
daneldorado
No guesses yet. Maybe I picked one that's a little too hard. Okay, let's add this clue: This film was made _after_ 1960. The line is spoken by a male actor. The quote, again: "We'd sit outside and have a drink, and I'd think how much she looked like her. And afterwards, she'd lie in my arms and I could almost fool myself into thinking it was her." Who said that, and in what film? Cheers, Dan
mudskipper
Ok, wild guess here: "Chinatown ?"....and if that's not right,Dan, could you give us just a little more light ((non-generic clues) because it's hard to look for things in complete darkness... Sure thing, skipper. By the way, thanks for your reply. Okay, now I'm going to hand you a MAJOR clue. This one should lead you right to it. In the quote, the man speaking is referring to a woman other than the woman he is with now. That other woman is played in the film by Jessica Alba. Jessica is young and has made only about 20 films... so you should have no trouble coming up with this one, yes? Cheers, Dan
mudskipper
How about "Meet Bill" ?...
daneldorado
How about "Meet Bill" ?... Uh oh. At this point, I fear you will run through Jessica Alba's entire repertoire (only about 20 films), picking out one film at a time. Eventually, you will find the right one. It's not "Meet Bill" (2007). But I warn you, if you go that route, you run the risk of having someone else nail the correct answer before you do. Because with every guess, I give ALL YOU GUYS a new clue. Here is a new clue: This film is a mystery thriller, with the guilty party eventually being brought down by a person who is played by the hottest name in television right now. Okay, here's the question again: "We'd sit outside and have a drink, and I'd think how much she looked like her. And afterwards, she'd lie in my arms and I could almost fool myself into thinking it was her." Who said that, and in what film? And I've already said that the line is spoken by a male actor. And one of the stars of the film is Jessica Alba. Cheers, Dan
mudskipper
Dan, I don't really care who gets the correct answer. In fact, I want more players to try and answer your questions because I think they're a little bit more challenging, but sometimes we need a little hint here and there to point us in the right direction. I usually give a clue at least once a day or when somebody gives a wrong answer to my questions... But let's put this one to rest. ..I think the movie is "The Killer Inside Me" which was released earlier this year. I haven't seen the movie, but I think the speaker was Ben Affleck...and the hottest name in TV today must be Simon Baker. (At least that's what my wife thinks.....) daneldorado
Hiya skip... Your wife is right, but you are wrong! It's NOT "Ben" Affleck, it's his younger brother CASEY Affleck! Just kidding around. Casey Affleck is the speaker, and he is talking about his current love (played by Kate Hudson), whom he compares to a girl he used to know (played by Jessica Alba). And yes, the film is "The Killer Inside Me" (2010). Simon Baker plays the Asst. District Attorney who gets the goods on Affleck, and takes him down. You know, this is such a terrific film, with such a great cast, I was amazed -- no, DOUBLE-amazed -- that the IMDb did not post the quote I mentioned from it. Neither does Google. Neither does Ask.com. Oops, now I've just given away all my usual haunts for quotes give-aways. But it IS surprising that so few quotes from "The Killer Inside Me" have been posted. As I said, it is a great film. I gave it four stars. Your thread now, skip. Cheers, Dan
mudskipper
Sorry, my fault, I misread the first name...I saw Affleck and just assumed it was Ben because he had the lead...I don't know if you knew, but that story was from a 1952 crime novel by Jim Thompson, published in paperback by Fawcett Publications. He also wrote "The Getaway" which was made into a movie with Steve Mcqueen and Ali McGraw....By the way, "The Killer Inside Me" was first adapted into film in 1976 with Stacy Keach ias the lead character, Lou Ford, and the veteran character actor Charles McGraw in the Simon Baker role.... Thread open...
mudskipper
Ok, I guess I'll have to take this myself. Here goes... which Charlie Chan movie is the following from?
