All Pre-Code fans are invited to a December party celebrating movies at the Silver Screen Oasis!

Santa must think fondly of classic film fans, for the month of December brings with it news that The Silver Screen Oasis is pleased to announce our next visiting Guest Star in December:

Noted author and film historian Mick LaSalle, who will visit from Dec. 17th-21st.

Mick LaSalle may be of particular interest to the friends of Turner Classic Movies familiar with his groundbreaking book, Complicated Women: Sex and Power in Pre-Code Hollywood, (St. Martin's Press, 2000). This critically hailed book is an entertaining and serious study of the freedom of Pre-Code actresses in the era prior to the enforcement of the Production Code in Hollywood movies in 1934. Mr. LaSalle's book was also adapted by TCM into a documentary special broadcast on TCM called Complicated Women (2003), which has aired several times since its initial broadcast. He also wrote Dangerous Men: Pre-Code Hollywood and the Birth of the Modern Man(Thomas Dunne Books, 2002) about the impact of male actors in that same period.

In addition to these works, LaSalle is the film critic for the San Francisco Chronicle and teaches at Stanford University. The quality of his mind and his lively writing style are on stimulating display at his blog, where the writer touches on topics as diverse as the current and past movie scene, and coping with life in 21st century America.

Thanks to the kindness of TCM and SSO member Dewey1960 we were able to set up this visit with the generous Mr. LaSalle, who will be answering your questions from Monday, Dec. 17th to Friday, Dec. 21st. We hope that you'll stop by and, if you'd like, feel free to participate in the discussion.

We'll be delighted to have you meet our new friend, Mick this holiday season!

Mr. LaSalle, as many know, is an authority on the pre-code era of filmmaking (as his two pubished books will attest.) He is also, as lead film critic for the San Francisco Chronicle, quite savvy about current, contemporary films. His presence over at Silver Screen Oasis is definitely cause for celebration.

I hope everyone has their well-thumbed copies of Complicated Women and Dangerous Men at the ready, for this coming Monday, Dec. 17th we begin our visit with author Mick LaSalle at the The Silver Screen Oasis. Even if you haven't had a chance to read these books, but are interested in Hollywood movies before the Production Code, this is a great opportunity to become better acquainted with this complex and highly entertaining period of film history.

Since the schedule for December has been a gold mine for Pre-Code fans on TCM, this should be an exceptionally apt time to field questions with Mr. LaSalle, who will be with us each day from Dec. 17th to Dec. 21st.
