nightwalker
Actually, THE MONOLITH MONSTERS was not directed by Jack Arnold, it was directed by a protege of his, John Sherwood. Arnold did co-write the original story, though. THIS ISLAND EARTH was also "officially" directed Joseph M. Newman, however, Arnold did do some re-shoots uncredited. He was also very busy in television during the sixties and seventies, directing episodes of perennial faves GILLIGAN'S ISLAND and THE BRADY BUNCH, among many others. joefilmone
I think " The Incredible Shrinking Man" is Arnold's best film science fiction film.
scsu1975
It is certainly his most thought-provoking.
MikeBSG
Arnold left some very interestng films. "It Came from Outer Space" is creepy and sad. "Creature from the Black Lagoon" created a horror icon, and "Revenge of the Creature" proved an honorable sequel. "Tarantula" avoids the pitfalls of the giant bug movie by being about the tragedy of Leo G. Carroll's doomed scientist, and "The Incredible Shrinking Man" takes what could have been the silliest movie of all time and makes it chilling. scsu1975
Let's hope some Hollywood moron does not decide to remake THE INCREDIBLE SHRINKING MAN (notwithstanding the Lily Tomlin parody).
joefilmone
There have been several planned remakes of " The Incredible Shrinking Man" including a comedy with Eddie Murphy ?! If " I Am Legend" is a huge hit- I'm sure there will be interests in doing another Richard Matheson classic.
