music on 2007 memorial

Recommended Posts

I too just saw the TCM memorial to those in Hollywood who passed away in the past year. I really liked the song that they used, does anyone know the name of the song and who performed it. TCM also had a really good song to promote their scary movies during the Haloween season.

Well, so far no luck. I remember last year when TCM had a promo for Janus films, and a couple of us liked the music but couldn't place it. It was hard to get an answer for that, too. There was a lot of discussion *about* the promo, because some people thought it too MTV-ish. But at least MTV lets you know what you're listening to!

I wish there were a "sticky" with this information every month (or at least post it on Youtube) so that we can get answers fast, without bothering anyone or interrupting discussions. Oh, well.

Hi,

I was fortunate enough to be recording when the clip was shown, so I wrote all the lyricis and then googled them. The song is "Promises" by Badly Drawn Boy. The song is "Promises" by Badly Drawn Boy. There is a video of the song on youtube:

Hopefully TCM.com will get this clip up ASAP -- it was amazing.

Promises

I promise you will get old

I promised you everything

To protect you wherever you go

I'll give you this diamond ring

Just promise you will remember

A promise should last forever

Right up to the dying embers

Of a fire that burns so slow

It's a different day everyday

Don't want you to walk alone

But how will we carry on

When all of these things have gone

Just promise you will remember

That promises last forever

Still after the last dying embers

Of a fire that burns so slowly

It's a beautiful thing to do

Sometimes you just have to walk away

Remember I do love you

Have courage in what you say

And promise you will remember

That promises last forever

Still after the dying embers

The fire that burns so slowly

And sometimes you just have to walk away

Sometimes you just have to walk away

Wishing today was yesterday

Yeah, sometimes you just have to walk away

Okay, color me confused again.

The clip provided in the link takes you to the artist singing not the TCM Remembers 2007 spot.

I have not seen the Remembers spot yet.

Is this the song used in the promo?

"Okay, color me confused again. (snip) Is this the song used in the promo?" - lzcutter

I looked in my big Crayola box of 64 crayons and couldn't find "Confused" - "Cornflower" was the closest I could find.

Anyway, from the lyrics, yes it is. That first line "I promise you will get old" certainly set the mood as I got depressed just hearing that. I don't care how truthful it may be, that's not a sentiment that I am wanting to hear much anymore. 2008 on the Calendar will be enough of a jolt.

AnotherBoomer -

It is possible that the media company RayGun doesn't do the promos for TCM anymore - though this piece is certainly done in their style. If they still do, they are not doing them with the frequency of years past. Their hasn't been a new "This Month" promo since "Watching The Detectives" earlier this spring.

As far as I can tell, today was the "premiere" of the "TCM Remembers - 2007" piece so it might not be made available online so soon. Perhaps by the end of the week. Keep an eye on the TCM Media Room - accessible through the "Video" link in the banner at the top of the page.

Their stories and lives are being preserved through the Turner Archive Project that does film/video histories with the men and women who were in front of the camera and behind the camera as well as those who worked in the studios.
