Princess of Tap
A Gallup poll taken in 1964, shortly after the 1963 March on Washington, found that 74 percent of Americans believed that “mass demonstrations by Negroes” would “hurt the Negro’s cause for racial equality.” Another Gallup poll in October 1964 found that 73 percent of Americans believed that “Negroes should stop their demonstrating now that they have made their point.” trump wants to take us back 53 years. I think today more than 74% of Americans would agree that they don't want to go back, but forward.
Princess of Tap
Yes. Woods' portrayal of Beckwith -- a man previously freed twice because of hung juries before justice prevailed -- earned him a 1996 Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor. Beckwith was born in California, but spent most of his life in Mississippi. When he was arrested for the murder of Evers, the arch-conservative Jackson Clarion-Ledger's headline proclaimed: Californian Is Charged with Murder of Medgar Evers. This is the white supremacist murderer of Medgar Evers, the NAACP representative in Decatur Mississippi. Beckwith shot Medgar Evers in front of his own home on June 13th 1963. At the time of the shooting, he was exonerated by an all-white jury. It was only in 1994 that he was actually brought to Justice and sentenced to prison. Medgar Evers, a college graduate and a World War II veteran, was given full military honors and Burial at Arlington National Cemetery. In 1996 Rob Reiner directed a film about Beckwith's final trial called "Ghosts of Mississippi". Actor James Woods portrayed Beckwith and received an Academy Award nomination for the role. Princess of Tap
Medgar Evers-- 1925-1963 World War II Veteran Graduate of Alcorn State University Husband and Father of Three children Today's victim of white supremacy is Medgar Evers. Medgar Evers had the most difficult job of being the Field Secretary of the NAACP in Jackson Mississippi. He was gunned down and murdered in front of his own home on June 13, 1963 by a white supremacist Klansmen, who was also a member of the notorious white councils. Due to the all-white juries and the institutional racism in Mississippi, Medgar Evers' murderer was not brought to Justice, unbelievably, until 1994. Both Bob Dylan and Nina Simone wrote and recorded songs honoring this martyr to Freedom. In 1996, Rob Reiner directed Ghosts of Mississippi, a movie based on the final trial in 1994 that finally convicted the white supremacist murderer of Medgar Evers. James Woods played the white supremacist murderer; Alec Baldwin played the successful district attorney and Whoopi Goldberg played Myrlie Evers, the Wife and subsequent Widow of Medgar Evers. Medgar Evers' brother, Charles Evers was the first black man to be elected a mayor in Mississippi in modern times. After his brother's death Charles became a close personal friend of Robert F Kennedy. The men were bonded by the fact that both their brothers were murdered by an Assassin's bullet. And that's probably where it starts-- resentment. People who think like Mike Ditka are that way because they want to be. He's been exposed to enough different kinds of people and enough diverse experiences that he has made a conscious choice to go down the Hateful Road of exclusion and white supremacy. ChristineHoard
UPDATE: Ditka apologized today for his comments saying he was referring to the NFL and not society as a whole. He's still off base, though. Example of NFL racial prejudice: very few black quarterbacks until Doug Williams, who won a Super Bowl for Washington in 1988. Blacks may have played quarterback in college but many of them were steered toward other positions once they reached the pro level. At least now that's improved and black quarterbacks are no big deal anymore so that's progress.

He simply lost his temper and told what he really thought. Not wanting to become a pariah in professional sports, which is so populated by black athletes - - it forced his hand to make some kind of an halfass apology. But now we know WHO he is and WHAT he is and what he really thinks. LOL A man his age and with years of experience in the public sphere doesn't make such pronouncements in front of the world media and not know exactly what he means and exactly what he's talking about. Princess of Tap
Hate Crime Murder--Suspects Arrested 34 Years After the Crime Will this ever come to any kind of an end? 34 years after the murder a 23 year- old black man near Atlanta, 5 white suspects have finally been arrested to be brought to Justice. 23 year -old Timothy Coggins was brutally beaten and murdered on October 9th, 1983 in Sunnyside Georgia about 30 miles from downtown Atlanta. On October 13th, 2017, 5 people were arrested in connection with Coggins' murder. Among the five were two Law Enforcement Officers--one a detention officer, the other a police officer--both of whom were charged with obstruction of justice. The police officer's mother was also charged with obstruction of justice. Two other men charged with the murder, as well as aggravated assault and other crimes, were not law enforcement officers. Some witnesses told the police that they had been silent for years out of fear. The investigation of the Cold Case was led by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and the Spalding County Sheriff's Office. Sheriff Darrell Dix said, " There's no doubt in the minds of all investigators involved that the crime was racially motivated and that if the crime happened today, it would be prosecuted as a hate crime. " According to the Coggins family, the victim's mother recently died and in her last breaths, she called out her son's name in a cry for justice. Gainesville Police say one white nationalist, accompanied by two others, shot at a group of protesters waiting for a bus. The shot missed the protesters, hitting a building behind them. Police were able to apprehend the white nationalists because the protesters took down their vehicle license plate number. All three white nationalists came from Texas and had been interviewed and or videotaped by media as supporting Richard Spencer's speech and white nationalism. Reportedly at the time of the shooting, the three men screamed Nazi salutes and threats of violence against the protesters. According to Florida law, not only the shooter, but also his two accomplices can be charged with attempted murder. Source: LA Times, October 20th 2017
