Princess of Tap Posted September 18, 2017 When Hurricane Irma came through and knocked out the power around here, all I had for entertainment or information was the radio. I thought even that would be no help, since our local rock, pop, and talk stations all went out with the power, and the only thing I could pick up were the three local country music stations, all of whom had generators and kept broadcasting at near full power. Not being a fan of country music, I was set to turn the radio off when I just happened to pick up NPR (National Public Radio) from nearby Gainesville. I ended up listening to it for several hours, and I just wanted to point out that nearly everything you've discussed in this thread so far was also covered on NPR during those 36 or so hours. At home I only listen to classical music on the radio and you can only find that locally on NPR. (I have to save my ears for loud classic rock in the car.LOL) I get a lot of my news national and international, first on NPR. As a news source, they are on close to the same covrage level, unfortunately with a much lower budget, as the BBC in terms of following not just the United States, but also world events. mr6666 Posted September 19, 2017 Rohingya Muslims being wiped off Myanmar’s map - YANGON, Myanmar (AP) — For generations, Rohingya Muslims have called Myanmar home. Now, in what appears to be a systematic purge, they are, quite literally, being wiped off the map. After a series of attacks by Muslim militants last month, security forces and allied mobs retaliated by burning down thousands of homes in the enclaves of the predominantly Buddhist nation where the Rohingya live. That has sent some 417,000 people fleeing to neighboring Bangladesh, according to U.N. estimates. There they have joined tens of thousands of others who have fled over the past year.... https://apnews.com/eac8bfd7f4be4c3c9e085b7a471270b1/Rohingya-Muslims-being-wiped-off-Myanmar's-map?utm_campaign=SocialFlow&utm_source=Twitter&utm_medium=AP

Under this system, a woman, no matter her age, is treated as a minor and must live under the supervision of a wali, or guardian. This is a legally recognized male —her father, husband, uncle, or some other male relative (even her son)—who must grant formal permission for most of the significant issues affecting her life....... https://www.commondreams.org/views/2017/09/26/saudi-women-may-soon-be-behind-wheel-still-not-drivers-seat?utm_campaign=shareaholic&utm_medium=twitter&utm_source=socialnetwork
