cbalducc
Has this movie been restored? It looks faded, more like a two-color Technicolor film. God bless.
rainingviolets21
I know what you mean, to me it looked like it was digitaly re-mastered -did anyone notice Lana Turner in the crowd , at the funeral ?
lzcutter
UCLA Archives restored this version of A Star is Born a few years back. However, the print that TCM usually airs is the faded Public Domain print. It would be great if TCM could do a Preservation Festival in partnership with UCLA and other archives so that they would have access to the restored prints even if it was just a short window for broadcast. JackFavell
I would love to see the restored print. This is one of my favorite movies.
edgeciff
Image has released a "restored" print of this film on DVD. Its the best print available taken from 35MM nitrate. I am not sure if TCM runs this print. I know they usually run bad prints of NOTHING SACRED and MY MAN GODFREY.
ChelseaRialtoStudios
One of the victims of the film's reissue was the soundtrack. The score was recorded on the Goldwyn stage and beautifully so. But the reissue and subsequent public domain prints sound flatter than the proverbial pancake. There is also a horrible cut in the music track that I would love to know for sure whether or not it dates back to the original release. When Esther gets her waitressing job at the party, there is a transitional music cue that, as recorded, goes into a light dance cue. But as butler Ferdinand Munier is carrying his tray, the music cuts off like someone ripped the optical track. The entire party sequence plays without scoring.
