The Chess Players (1977). Satyajit Ray's film takes place during the time of the Sepoy Mutiny of 1857. The mutiny was caused by the fact that terrified and angry Hindus believed that the Enfield rifles given to them by the British were greased with cow fat; the Muslim soldiers believed that the grease was pig fat. To load the guns, the soldiers had to bite off the ends of lubricated cartridges. This was evidently not true, but a bloody rebellion ensued. (OK, too much information).
