The Phantom of the Opera (2004)

Recommended Posts

This is one of those movies you either love or hate. There is very rarely a middle ground. Me, I liked it. The Phantom of the Opera has a lot of problems, sure, but it's not as bad as its detractors make it out to be. Because I enjoy analyzing things, I'll say the movie is not so much bad as it is confused, particularly in regard to the characters of the Phantom and Raoul.

Gerard Butler is a great actor, but he can't sing worth a damn. Emmy Rossum suffered from the opposite problem: she has a very pretty singing voice, but her acting seemed lifeless most of the time. Whoever cast Patrick Wilson, though, made a very good decision; even people who hated the movie praised his performance.

And the scene where the Phantom strangles Joseph Buquet was awesome.

Thoughts?

It's a great looking production.    They made a mistake by making the phamtom too good looking-
