S_dub
Does anyone know who did the actual ice skating in this scene of The Bishop's Wife? (Cary Grant)
patful
I thought I read somewhere that Grant did his own skating?
jhnrndglt
One book about Samuel Goldwyn says that Grant and Young did some of the skating, but that the longer shots were professional skaters wearing rubber masks. If you look closely or pause your DVD you can certainly see that it is a man wearing a mask.
rainingviolets21
Also the Cary Grant ice skating double was the same height as Loretta Young--They were photographed in indirect lighting and the long shots were three stunt doubles--that is why Miss Young wore that atrocious hat, to shade her face. CineMaven
I read it was Sonja Henie and Dick Button.
CineSage_jr
Considering that Henie was under contract to 20th Century-Fox and, at the peak of her career, the highest-paid woman in America, I seriously doubt that Sam Goldwyn would've spent the money it would have cost for her to double Loretta Young in an uncredited long-shot.
