Bogie56
**Announcement** Tomorrow we switch to 2019. I have only seen one FF thus far and given that the major awards and the critics choices will not be announced until the end of the year I think we should have time to do a best of the decade review this coming week as well. Possibly a late Wednesday or Thursday start for the best of 2010 to 2019. Then the following Saturday we will do our top tens of all time for a week then just open up the thread after that to anyone who wishes to post. All done just in time for my jury duty summons! 1
CoraSmith
For 2019 I will have to pass. I'll take note if others have some good tips already.
Bogie56
My top FF films of 2019 of the 1 that I have seen are …. 1. The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind (2019) Chiwetel Eijofor, UK [the majority of this is in Malawian with subtitles] This was a pretty decent directorial effort by Eijofor about a boy who tackles the drought problem in his Malawian village and his relationship with his authoritarian father. The title tells you what kind of picture it is really.
LawrenceA
2019 I've seen none worth recommending. I've also seen these: The Influence, Denis Rovira van Boekholt, Spain The Wandering Earth, Frant Gwo, China Shanghai Fortress, Hua-Tao Teng, China 1 1
LawrenceA
Parasite, from South Korea and director Bong Joon-ho (The Host, Snowpiercer, Okja), seems to be the foreign-language film of the year as far as word-of-mouth goes. I'm looking forward to it, even if I've found his previous works uneven. I've also heard good things about Pain & Glory from Pedro Almodovar (Spain) First Love from Takashi Miike (Japan) Les Miserables from Ladj Ly (France) Queen of Hearts from May el-Toukhy (Denmark/Sweden) Portrait of a Lady on Fire from Celine Sciamma (France)

Sukhov
Wolf's Call, Anontin Baudry, France - A rogue submarine plans on nuking Russia and starting WWIII which the team have to stop. Of course, like all cheesy action thrillers they will have to be willing to sacrifice themselves. The plot is rather dumb and convoluted but it's a fun film. Lots of CG effects that leave much to be desired. This stars Omar Sy of "Intouchables" fame. The Leader, Zhong Jun, China - rather dull anime on the early life of Karl Marx. Really boring and doesn't include anything interesting that you couldn't just briefly read on the Wiki page. The animation was also mostly CGI which I hate. It's even worse that the trailer made it appear it would be traditional hand-drawn. Just watch the French movie if you want to know more about this section of history.
Bogie56
My guess is that this award which was handed out in 2019 was generally meant for films made the previous year but in some instances entries into these awards are films that have yet to be released to the general public.
