It shows the defense force of an island fighting against the US and its allies during the Korean war. Of course the Koreans are depicted as valiant heroes who inflicted a whopping 13 ship casualty on the enemy. This is only really interesting if you want to see what their cinema is like but even then I would recommend other, better made films. Sukhov Posted January 7, 2019 Share Posted January 7, 2019 Samraat - In this Bollywood film, a cast of odd characters meet up to find the ship Samraat and get the gold aboard it. The former captain had been running an illicit scheme and the daughter hires two men to find the ship. Of course the men realize the ship has gold and each wants to find the gold for their own ends and they are willing to work together for it. This one tries way too hard to be funny but the jokes just fall flat to me. I'm also not a fan of the lame, musical interludes. But it was Jean Carmet (above) as Thenardier who won a Cesar Award (supporting actor). I saw a dubbed version of this film some time ago. It is a fun but macabre film. We learn the major spoiler early on that Serrault has killed his wife some time ago but keeps up the pretence that she is bed ridden in the apartment above the store. Charles Aznavour is a suspicious neighbour who has a shop across the lane. But why are all the friends of his deceased wife being murdered one by one? Krystyna Janda plays a woman who is imprisoned for years until she confesses to a crime she did not commit. It certainly owes something to Kafka's The Trial and even The Passion of Joan of Arc (picture below). The film was eventually released in Poland in late December 1989 and then at Cannes in 1990. Janda won the Cannes Best Actress prize.
