Bogie56
The Man From Majorca (1984) is a pretty decent police thriller from Sweden's Bo Wilderberg. Two officers begin an investigation into a small robbery which soon leads to a larger conspiracy.
Bogie56
Yellow Earth (1984) by Chen Kaige is one of the first, that I have seen anyway, of the new wave of Chinese films. A Soldier is sent to the hinterland to study folk songs so that they may be rewritten with a Communist message. I saw this in the cinema but was a tad underwhelmed which may have been due to the hype that I had read. It may work better on television.

LawrenceA
Phenomena is one of the strangest films in the oeuvre of Italian writer-director Dario Argento. The story concerns a young American girl (played by 14-year-old Jennifer Connelly) with the ability to psychically communicate with insects. This has caused some problems for her, as one would imagine, so she's transferred to an exclusive private school in the Swiss countryside. A series of grisly murders committed in the nearby town draws her interest, so she decides to investigate, because...sure, why not? She also befriends nice professor Donald Pleasence and his pet chimpanzee Inga. This isn't as gory or violent as some of Argento's earlier (and later) films, but it still has some nausea-inducing scenes. The movie's appeal lies in the excellent craftsmanship of the filmmaking, and the totally bizarre storyline that takes more than a few unexpected turns, before finishing with an unforgettable final act of cinematic madness. For a long time this was only available in the US in a heavily-edited (33 minutes shorter!) version with the title Creepers. However, the original version has been widely available on disc for years now, and should be the only version sought out by those interested.
