JackFavell
Love that John Held,Jr. poster art! I found this on the net- and I'm sneaking this one in, though it's not a movie poster....I just like it.
scottman1932
Nice stuff! I love the John Held Jr art work as well. As I recall, he also did the art work for the MGM poster for GOOD NEWS (1930).
PrinceSaliano
Love that Swedish William Haines-Leila Hyams poster. Incidentally, that film is playing this month on Marie Dressler Day!

mndean4709
That still you thought might be from Convention City is actually from Dames from the final scene in jail (notice the shadows of the bars in the background).
mdffyx
Thx for info mndean. Dames is a film I havent seen much of over the years; I had the impression its a post-code film. But, costumes in this pic make me wonder!
mndean4709
It's supposed to be a code film, but it's a darn strange one, if you ask me. The first romantic song is about how Powell has loved Keeler since her (ahem) moment of conception, which is described in cute terms. Later, Blondell shows up in Kibbee's bed in his train compartment, refusing to get out, "Why? I don't snore.", and they do eventually sleep in the same compartment. Herbert's character is also a censorious type agitating for the cleanup of vice, including "dirty" Broadway plays. And of course the final number in the play before the riot, where all the girls are scantily clad and "adjusting" each others costumes during the dance. The film is much more silly than risqu?, but it's certainly not as constrained as most code films and specifically targets bluenoses like Breen. I've read that it opened about a month after the code was in force. Perhaps they made enough cuts to get it past or who knows. To me, the film is just tame enough not to be a precode film, but then a number of precode-era films are pretty tame.

PrinceSaliano
I love THE MIND READER (1933)! TCM needs to show this more often.
mndean4709
Heck, they need a Warren William day, especially featuring his precodes. I saw they're showing The Dark Horse (unless they changed their minds), but they've shown few of his films since the Perry Masons.

mndean4709
The first pic shows Jack Oakie, I think (hard to tell, for all the attention I paid to the man in the picture it could be Boris Karloff). The second has one of my favorite pairs of golddigging blondes, Feathers and Tinkle.

mdffyx
Interesting list. I don't have any of 'em. Maybe others viewing can help. Possibly, auction sites and ebay would be good places to search. I'd like TCM to show the films if any in their vaults.
