Johnson's gown, floor-length and cut on the bias, is a harbinger of the future. Roth's costume, with an excess of bared flesh, is pointed squarely into the past.) - www.divasthesite.com/Divine_Reading/Divine_Reading_Madam_Satan.htm

Snorky
Really enjoyed Laurel and Hardy Day on TCM last month! Many of their shorts were from the pre-code era and I could've watched those guys all day but unfortunately had to work that Saturday. I did record a couple shorts during the day and watched the marathon all evening when I got home. How about those convention girls' outfits in Sons of the Desert? Very pre-code. Snorky
The three Blotto (1930) wives with Stan Laurel. Georgette Rhodes (left) appeared with him in the French version, Anita Garvin (center) was the one we know best --- she did the English language edition, and Linda Loredo (right) filled in for the Spanish role. - http://greenbriarpictureshows.blogspot.com/2006_06_01_archive.html
Snorky
I think I talked myself into watching Laughing Gravy tonight. The last recording I haven't watched yet.
mdffyx
I didnt appreciate the way L&H hogged the camera during that dance number. Any truth to the story that Stan laurel took ill during production and Fred Astaire subbed, undetected?
Snorky
I never heard that before - interesting story. Yeah, get out of the way guys! They act like it's their movie or something...
mdffyx
Only kidding, of course. I'm a big fan of L&H. I have 23 of their shorts. Some are region 2 discs released in UK. Have a couple of the UK's converted, and the rest are US releases from the 70's. My favorites are Hog Wild and Dirty Work, plus silents Two Tars and Big Business. Dont care for the non-Roach later releases, because "the Boys" just don't look good.

JackFavell
I was happy they had their day, it was wonderful. But I sure would have liked to see a couple silents- Big Business, Double Whoopee, Two Tars, and Liberty are my favorites.

Yeah, and they don't have that wonderful Roach Studios music playing throughout the films either.
mdffyx
I have an import CD which is music of Leroy Shield, played with antique instruments and using old style microphones and recorded in mono. It's all the music of Laurel and Hardy and Little Rascals shorts. Leroy wrote the original music and conducted his own small orchestra. This band , The Beau Hunks, duplicates the melodies exactly. 2 CD's contains 100 compositions. Booklets too, refer to specific Rascals and L&H episodes. Amazon UK may have. pancakes_barbara
mdffyx & Snorky, I just want to say how much I love this thread! I discovered it a few weeks ago but have just now fully explored it. I've been saving some of the photos to my computer and have put a few on [my flickr page|http://www.flickr.com/photos/28290474@N06/] ([with a link back to this thread|http://www.flickr.com/photos/28290474@N06/2755702358/in/set-72157606776237055/]), but now that I realize what an effort you two have put into it, I want to ask your permission to use the photos. I usually just dig around on ebay to find lobby cards and the like, but I'm guessing that some of these images are from your personal collections, and I'll take them down right away if you want.
