scottman1932
Thanks TCM for showing this pre-code gem again. One of my favorite early Cagney performances (next to PICTURE SNATCHER). Did anyone else enjoy this one?
jpb
One of the great pre-codes. Sex and corruption permeate the whole movie, with an energy unusal for 1931. None of the usual early-talkie staginess. Cagney and Blondell are great together, the acting is realistic, and the ending is genuinely touching and believable. Wish they'd release a Cagney pre-code DVD collection with all his starring features pre-1934: They are all highly entertaining;. This one is among the best.
Nicki82
I enjoyed it, but that is because a pre-code filled with some of my favorite subject in movies.
traceyk65
TCM played "Women in Love" or "Sinner's Holiday" the other day, which I guess was Cagney's first film? Anyway, his fast-talking personna was already in place. He and Joan Blondell totally stole the movie out from under the "stars" Evelyn Knapp and Grant Withers. Perfect trashy pre-code, with loose women, boot-leggers, a murder and cops that almost seem to be the bad guys.
