pandorainmay
The Silver Screen Oasis would like the pleasure of your company at a weekend exploration of the shady side of the Film Noir street this coming Saturday, Jan. 19th & Sunday, Jan. 20th. Our special guest star will be Alan K. Rode, whose expertise in film history has yielded the recent book, Charles McGraw, Biography of a Film Noir Tough Guy. This well received portrait outlines the life and career of the actor who appeared in several outstanding noirs, including The Killers (1946), Roadblock (1951) and Narrow Margin (1952), as well as many other movies in all genres. Mr. Rode is also a founding director of The Film Noir Foundation, which can be viewed here: www.filmnoirfoundation.org. This non-profit organization is dedicated to displaying and rescuing ?America?s Noir Heritage?. He is a senior editor for the Foundation?s newsletter, The Noir City Sentinel, and is the associate producer, co-programmer and co-host for the Noir City film festivals in San Francisco, Los Angeles and Seattle. We'd be delighted if you'd stop by The Silver Screen Oasis to engage in our discussion, ask a question of Alan, or just to enjoy our non-profit site. No need for an r.s.v.p.?you know how informal film noir can be?just drop on by the site, and look for the word, "moxie". We'll be delighted to see you. OllieTSB
Thanks for this. I'm looking forward - I'm trying to rush thru the book so I can ask some specific questions. My usual question is, "What episodes didn't the author include and why didn't he? Space? Lack of supporting information?" And then "Is he going after Steve Brodie next?" McGraw and Brodie helped fill up so many favorite films in supporting roles, always lending a credibility greater than their support-role traditionally yielded. pandorainmay
Hi Ollie T., Thanks so much for expressing an interest in our upcoming event. If you'd like, you are welcome to ask Alan Rode these questions yourself, but I'll make sure that they are included at some point in the discussion too. It all starts tomorrow at the SSO ! You're all invited.
