From the Marx Bros. movie THE COCONUTS. I think Anita Page is the ingenue, but I don't know the leading man.

I remember he was terrible.

Along with that Monkey Doodle-Do song.

Yes, it's from The Cocoanuts, and yes, that's Oscar Shaw, and yes, he was a terrible actor. It should not take long to identify the woman, with all those clues. I was very surprised to find she had a relatively short life.

If the weather is just right, I can push my special "animate" button and turn your picture into a movie with sound. It worked with this one.

He is singing a love song to the girl about if his "dreams come true". The paper in his hand is a map.

Does that map look damp? I read that they had to keep the maps wet; when they were being folded on screen, they made so much noise the sound was getting messed up, so they wet down the maps.

I thought the map was made of cloth, but it could be wet paper.

At the end of the clip the guy folds it up and then stands up and

shakes the map a little, as if it might be wet.

In the old days (and maybe now too) government topo and other

kinds of maps were paper but had waterproof ink and could be

mounted on cotton cloth with some type of glue. This was

necessary for taking maps into rainy areas, such as military

maps during wars.

I'll post the video link after someone guesses the girl's name.

Just checked one of my Marx Brothers books. In the "why a duck" scene, where Groucho is showing blueprints to Chico, the crackling of the blueprints kept drowning out the dialogue. So the director suggested soaking them in water. It took twenty-eight takes to do that scene.

Since nobody else seems to know the girl, I'll say that I think she might be Mary Eaton.

Funny... I've seen this movie several times, but I never noticed the wet maps until you mentioned them.

Now this photo kept me occupied for several hours.

I found it by accident.

I have now identified the movie, and two of the actresses.

Let's see how everyone does:

I don?t have any idea.

The only clues I see in the photos are:

lady dressed as statue of liberty, wearing sign that seems to read ?American National Debts?

Lady dressed in ?League of Nations? costume

Possible year of film: 1934

Might be on a set that is supposed to look like the White House
