MissGoddess
The two I'd recommend are by two people who knew him best. One, by his and Carole Lombard's personal business manager, Jeannie Garceau (Dear Mr. G), and the other by his fifth and last wife, Kay Spreckles (Clark Gable: A Personal Portrait). A quite different picture arises from the skirt chasing braggart he is often portrayed as. You might find copies in your library. Avoid David Bret's, for he is notorious for being inaccurate, to put it mildly. Here are links for used copies of the two biographies: http://www.amazon.com/Dear-Mr-G-Biography-Clark/dp/B000PJYJTY/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1200944992&sr=1-2 http://www.amazon.com/Clark-Gable-personal-Kathleen-Williams/dp/B0007DEMOA/ref=sr_1_14?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1200945301&sr=1-
