EugeniaH Posted May 22, 2012 Okay, I'm backtracking on the "Mussels" song. I listened to it and realized I'm not as 'sick of it' as I thought (they used to play it a lot on the radio). However, here is the track from Squeeze that I don't like. Maybe because it's been played to death - or just that it isn't as strong as the others: "Tempted":
DownGoesFrazier Posted May 22, 2012 I agree. That and "Black Coffee" have a slow tempo, not Squeeze's forte.
scottman1932 Posted May 23, 2012 Squeeze: "Hits Of The Year"
scottman1932 Posted May 23, 2012 Another favorite underappreciated 80s band (to be fair they were recoring in the late 70s too). Sparks: "Angst In My Pants"
EugeniaH Posted May 23, 2012 After all this 80s music I'm throwing a curveball:
DownGoesFrazier Posted May 23, 2012 One shot girl groups from the early '60s, like the Toys.........How about the Murmaids' "Popsicles and Icicles".
EugeniaH Posted May 23, 2012 Boy, they have EVERYTHING on YouTube. Popsicles and Icicles: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jg3HNnNewXs
EugeniaH Posted May 23, 2012 We can't mention any girl groups at all without mentioning The Supremes. This group alone is worth 20 posts or so!
casablancalover Posted May 23, 2012 Oh, Eugenie, love the girl groups, though I will also post a song that reminds me of summer so much (besides Robin Ward's Hit that I absolutely love more than anything!) Johnny Tillotson http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wDCQEbJPPgI The Supremes

EugeniaH Posted May 24, 2012 Sure, let's continue in this direction! DB, I remember "Easier Said Than Done" very well. Released before my time, but they still played it on the radio when I was a kid (1970s). Remember this one by the Chiffons? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kfxx3scAKS8
scottman1932 Posted May 24, 2012 The girl group sound... The Velvettes: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7A9PJ4padTQ
EugeniaH Posted May 24, 2012 Hey, this song makes me want to get up and dance! But that's probably not a good idea, since I'm in the office right now... Better to log off and try and get my work done. Sigh.
EugeniaH Posted May 24, 2012 "Dancin' in the Streets" - cute video, too.

EugeniaH Posted May 25, 2012 Hey, this is neat - I didn't know that George Harrison's "My Sweet Lord" was originally sung by The Chiffons: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1BEQTIi-Ds4&feature=related Of course, you won't find any references to Krishna and Rama in this version... EugeniaH Posted May 25, 2012 Thanks, db. I had first looked for a year on the clip to check myself (couldn't find one), then quickly read some of the following comments (the ones that mistakenly attributed the song to the Chiffons) and jumped to conclusions. Interesting to read this background story you posted, so in a way I'm glad I was wrong.
EugeniaH Posted May 25, 2012 Interesting again, db. Thanks for posting all this music trivia - I like reading it (as do others, I'm sure). We don't have to necessarily keep on with the 'girl groups', but here I'm posting something light and pop-y to celebrate Friday, the day before a 3-day weekend (for me, and hopefully for most of us): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-XeBdBVBmb0
