DGF, I tried to find what you were asking about, but did not come up with anything that fit your description (there were several songs titled "Here We Go Again", but not with that as the first line.)

I love this song. I'll be Your Baby Tonight. Love the melody, the relaxed sound it has, the country guitars. Bring that bottle over here.

I usually have good luck googling lyrics, but not this time. I came up with a lot of songs which weren't the one.

I'm trying to find a song. It is either straight rock or new wave, probably from the '70s or '80s. The first line is "Here we go again". Anyone know it?

Are you sure those are the exact lyrics?  I ask because I often mishear lyrics.  Do you know if it was played a lot on the radio?

Two others of my current favorites are by Canadian artists------Neil Young's "Southern Man", and Rush's "Subdivisions".

Is there any recording artist who defines the counter-culture better than Neil? And he's been so true to that all these years. A truly great Canadian.

As a child, Neil's father (Scott Young) was an conservative sportswriter for the Toronto Telegram, who also wrote sports-themed novels for young people - and, most notably, was a regular guest on Saturday evening's 'Hockey Night in Canada', that era's most nationally watched television program, home of the Leafs - who then were "Canada's Team". I think his father's fame probably made Neil a school yard celebrity of sorts. Virtually every kid in Canada saw his dad on Saturday nights.

I chose this video, even though it's not the best sound (it's from the lp) because of all the great photos of Neil throughout.

Here's Rush

Music, lyrics, voice--he's just so damn special.  Canadians must feel very proud!  And interesting about his dad.

By the way, he has a place somewhere in this area and I always hope one day to catch a glimpse of him.  Not likely, but just imagine!

Doesn't seem to be the type of guy you'll see in line at the supermarket.

The inimitable Nick Lowe released a Christmas album last year. It's actually pretty darn good, in a weird semi-cheesey good-natured Nick Lowe way.

My favourite track on it is the traditional, "Rise Up Shepherds and Follow". It's not on youtube, I had trouble finding it.

Hope this works. If it does, try and give it a listen, everybody, if only because of the difficulty I had tracking (pun!) it down.

Nope, can't find it. too bad.

Here's a sampler for that album (yes, I still call them albums, too)

And wow..! Big difference, huh?

I remember a time, before Whitney Houston came along and turned everyone into ridiculous over-singers, when there was great beauty and dynamism combined with restraint in our pop engenues - such as what we had in the wonderful Dionne Warwick.

So, it's really nice to discover a retro style of singing like that still today, like here with Phox.

Eureka! I was looking for the song that began, "Here we go again". I found it accidentally. It's "Animal", by Neon Trees. Good song, but not as good as their "Some Kind of Monster".

What a great voice she has! And those harmonies were pretty danged good, too. I appreciate the all-acoustic aspect as well.

It's groups with talent and a feel for music like this that incline me to start keeping up with the current US music again.

Thanks for the video, DB!

They really are an interesting bunch, aren't they.

Here's an "official" video of their song 'Kingfisher'. Pretty cool.

He is a good natured fellow.  Here's a different song from the album:
