Snorky,

I thought I was the only one who would still remember "Nadia's Theme" from that show. (My mother used to love watching it)

Guess I was wrong... here are a couple of versions, enjoy!

Miss T:

I'd love to talk Beatles with Angie and anyone else that has an interest.

As far as "I See The Cross" you might have heard on any number of Christian radio stations. It's a song that has a very good driving beat until it hits a soft bridge section. If comes back to the chorus after that section and finally builds with a huge choral section doing the chorus. It's a powerful song for me.

When we do it I get to do a big string part instead of using the organ.

I don't think liking old songs makes anbody old. For the record, I never watched "Breakfast at Tiffany's" in a theater except for much later reissues, and I still love Moon River. It might be one of the few movie songs that almost makes me cry (don't ask what the other ones are).

MOON RIVER

p.s. Sorry, just got caught up trying to catch up with this thread - hope it's OK with you!

dsclassic,

Hope you won't mind this late reply, I've only started catching up with the thread. I really like offbeat orchestration choices, like the theremin in "The Day the Earth Stood Still" or the zither in "The Third Man" and whatever it is they used for the creepy music in "Psycho".

As for the themes from the 80s movies, well, yeah, they bring back memories from a time that even now seemed happier, and more carefree. I was just thinking about other movie songs from the era, like Power of Love and Ghostbusters or the "Top Gun" song, whatever it was called.

In no particular order:

What is your favorite Beatles album? What previously unavailable Beatles titles would you like to see released officially? (of the ones that are currently only available in the gray market).

I just read an article not too long ago about all the rights disputes that have kept many Beatles songs from being officially released. It's incredible how those disputes between the rights-holders can go on for years, or decades even.

"I See The Cross"

Hey there Movieman.... thanks for this post...I had never heard of this artist, let alone the song. Very good sound. (I especially liked the "a cappella" part at the end.

Some of my favorite more contemporary Christian artists would be Michael Card (the first time I heard him sing The Nazarene....I thought it was Dan Fogelberg) and also Fernando Ortega and Twila Paris.

I think I am more "blue grassy" than you though...and one of my newest favorites would have to be from a group I just discovered this past year called "Blue Highway"... called "Someday".(also an "a cappella" song) Not to put too morbid of a "spin' on things....but my husband and my parents all have instructions on how to use this song should the day come when they need to make plans for me... it is something I want played loud and strong on that day....

Anyway....

*The Beatles!!* Help...Hello Goodbye...Twist and Shout...Sgt Pepper's Lonely Heart's Club Band... When I'm Sixty Four... Eleanor Rigby...Blackbird...Golden Slumbers...Do You Want To Know a Secret.... Shall I go on?????????? :-)

Ha...you know I think this commercial was playing when we BOTH were little kids....the only difference is...I was watching it as a "first run" and you (ya little whippersnapper) were likely seeing it as a Nick at Nite "Retro-commercial" HA! (I'm feeling older and older by the minute) :-)

Much better! I cannot believe I actually like a Celine song. Please strangle me now.

What?! Greer is one of the worst femmes fatale ever!

Greer is not a tramp!! she's an elegant lady!

You're right. She's not a tramp. She's a snob.

You must not have seen the movie. Mrs. Miniver allures the friendly German into her

kitchen and then, when he's all relaxed, she gets the gun and shoots him dead. Look at

the cold look on her face after she's pulled the trigger. It sends shivers down my spine. I'm

still amazed she won an Oscar for playing a femme fatale.

:P She knew how to gun down skeeters long before then. She's a deadly woman to be

avoided.

Hi Kathy:

Brian Doerksen is probably better known for some of the songs he has written then as a performer. My church band likes to do his material along with other writers like Matt Redman, Chris Tomlin, Lincoln Brewster. Tomlin is playing in Baltimore this week and many people from the worship team are going and I think some are going to have a time to visit and listen to him talk about music and leading worship.

(.... also for "route 66")

As far as Beatles music goes my favorite album is probably "Revolver" followed by "Abbey Road." There is so much good music there written in so many styles. "Strawberry Fields Forever", "Here, There and Everywhere", "If I Needed Someone" are among my favorite songs.

I don't know much about the bootleg recordings to say anything there.

Question:

Who was the better composer and why?
