DownGoesFrazier
Not to beat a dead horse, but another (for me) prototypical late '60s song is The Byrds' EIGHT MILES HIGH.

misswonderly3
I'll never forget the excitement that television show generated. And the music soundtrack was so perfect for it. Thank you for reminding me of Twin Peaks . I like the way Eno assumed that his listeners had an attention span. Paul McCartney was in Toronto recently. He must like Canada, he comes here a lot. He played a rarely-performed song, Mull of Kintyre, bagpipes and all. Here's the original: Edited by: misswonderly on Aug 11, 2010 12:29 PM

misswonderly3
Tom Waits -just fantastic. Sometimes I think this guy is the walking spirit of film noir. Or his music, anyway. Here is just one of many great songs by him, from the very fine album, Rain Dogs. This is "Hang Down Your Head" :
casablancalover
Wow, it's not exactly Barry Manilow's Daybreak is it? That's bridge jumping/sleeping pill overdose/"wheredidIputthebulletsformygun" type of song. Not exactly what I needed after Church on Sunday.. Oh well. Is he always in this giving up phase? Don't give up on yourself, then pretend to others that it's a sacrifice. -casablancalover Edited by: casablancalover on Aug 29, 2010 12:59 PM
misswonderly3
Sorry, casablancalover. It did occur to me that Tom can be a bit of a "downer", and I do usually like to post more uplifting songs on Sunday. Tom Waits can be rather "dark", but he's also very intense, very philosophical (in a rough, " noir" sort of way), and his music is undeniably unique. Certainly not for all tastes, I'll go with that. Here is a beautiful "Sundayish" song from the soundtrack to "O Brother, Where Art Thou?". Lovely faith-filled lyrics, and a very pretty melody. DownGoesFrazier
Sorry that I have no you-tube to provide, but I'm a big Stevie Wonder fan, especially in his most creative period, the '70s. I've recently been re-listening to his best collections------"Talking Book" (best song "You've Got it Bad, Girl"); "Fulfillingness First Finale" (best song---"Bird of Beauty"); "Innervisions" (Best Song--"Golden Lady"); and "Songs in the Key of Life" (Best song--"Another Star"). Great stuff. Edited by: finance on Aug 29, 2010 2:46 PM
