casablancalover
Merry Christmas Eve. I have learned this counter-melody to Silent Night. It is so beautiful, I want to share it with everyone who is searching for the spirit of love that burns in our hearts. May His light illuminate our lives. Best version ever is by the St Olaf choir. But can't seem to find it, so here's another. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HPRb_yo9dow&feature=related
wouldbestar
Early in the 1995 version of Little Women the March sisters sing a carol I had never heard before but whose melody is being used in some local commercials. It ends with a long Gloria and in excellis Deo. Since they are New Englanders I though it might be one more well know to Northerners than those of us in the South. I would like to know the title so I can get all the lyrics. Since Christmas for we Catholics doesn't begin until that day I'll still have plenty of time to sing it. Thank you from whoever answers this for a gift that will last long and is free. Arn't the best things in life supposed to be?
casablancalover
Do you mean this hymn? #561 in the LBW. (green book). For the Beauty of the Earth: Lyrics: http://www.hymnsite.com/lyrics/umh092.sht Hope this helps. Maybe I have the song wrong; The movie is not available for scenes in youtube. wouldbestar
Fellow Casablanca Lover: Thank you. No, it's not For the Beauty of the Earth that was sung at the Meg/John wedding. At the very beginning of the film it's Christmas eve and the girls ware singing the carol as Marmee sends them to bed and they blow out some candles. It is not Angels We Have Heard on High but the same lyrics at the end with a different melody and the body of the song is different.

casablancalover
Without the movie for reference, I am sorry, but this is another setting for Angels, that is heard in England, and is wonderful. Hope you enjoy it. Merry Christmas, wouldbestar! May it be happy and warm... h5. HA! I just realized, if I remember, we are both in FL! We are warm!.. I will try to post a Christmas card to you later. Edited by: casablancalover on Dec 25, 2010 8:02 AM
coolrob1955
The carol the girls sing right before bedtime is *Ding Dong Merrily On High*. Glooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooria, Hosanna in excelsis! For what it's worth I think that the 1994 *Little Women* is a modern classic and is definately a Christmas favorite with my family. Best wishes and happy boxing day Metairie Road
casablancalover
Wonderful! We have the smartest people on this forum, and I am so glad you wrote! Thank you, for now I have another carol to play, and it's is such a happy one! Take you choice, I love them both: One more day of Christmas carols, for it's Sunday! Good processional hymn: I did hear a complaint yesterday from an acquaintance about Christmas seeming so long, and I felt the need to take responsibility.. I just said, "Blame us who follow faiths borne out of the Reformation. We do so love Advent." Again, Merry Christmas, Everyone! h5. Yes there will be one more from St Olaf before the day ends.
