misswonderly3
Hope you don't mind, casablancababy, if I impose a song on your thread today. Just found out it's George Harrison's birthday today (he would have been 68 ! ). Here is a simple, beautiful song by him that not many people seem to know about, maybe because it appeared on his final album, "Brainwashed", which not many people seem to know about. Anyway, this song can always make me feel good; George's sweet ringing guitar sound making a little heaven on earth, even during his last days. casablancalover
Mind? I love it! Thank you. I like the simple lyrics of his work. I like his Brainwashed album too. Happy Birthday to the thoughtful one..
casablancalover
During the Academy Awards, they played the music from Henry V, while introducing the lifetime achievement awards . I love this music, and hear it is heard in the original film.
casablancalover
h4. From the sublime to the . . . Today's inspiration, from the Worst Oscar's Ever thread: h6. Warning. Naughty words, but it is an Oscar winner.
misswonderly3
"All things are ready if our minds be so ! " Henry V . Maybe that could go in the "favourite line from movie" thread. That famous St. Crispin's Day speech is very stirring, and the music was almost equally so. Can't resist posting this here: I don't believe anyone (either at the Oscars or on these forums) has mentioned that the majestic, eloquent music that accompanies King George's/Colin Firth's speech in the climatic final scene from the film is from Beethoven's 7th symphony, second movement. This piece has also been used in other film soundtracks. The 7th is my favourite Beethoven symphony, and the 2nd movement is a perfect piece of music. Here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qs5pH4GKYkI Edited by: misswonderly on Feb 28, 2011 3:41 PM
casablancalover
More philosophy of the soul-stirring deepness across the pond. casablancalover
I am just off to bed. Let me sleep on it.. the music is beautiful. I know I could come up with a Beatles top 10, though there will be some repeats.. Funny guy, love those lists.
FrankGrimes
What a wide ranging list. "Revolution" and "Do You Want To Know A Secret." Honorable mention for "Baby You're A Rich Man." I tend to like uptempo music and most of my selections lean this way. And, I must say, The Beatles are pretty good at uptempo. Their sound really isn't my kind of sound, but I do like many of their songs. It is hard to pick 10. I agree. I ended up writing down 17 favorites. I'm sure it's really a task for you since they are your favorite and you know their entire output. I'm nowhere near that knowledgeable of their music. I only know their chart songs. 11. 12. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zORWVa_JyV8 13. 14. 15. 16. 17. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RG73Pk1yUj8 18. 19. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XpzggAVxLME 20. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DsgWfAilIEM
casablancalover
It is hard to stick to ten... 10. 9. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DsgWfAilIEM 8. 7. 6. 5. 4. 3. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FEqi0cs-Crw 2. 1. I, too, will have an addendum.
movieman1957
I've never been a big fan of "Twist and Shout." It is more the song than the recording. For early stuff I lean more to Lennon's work but "And I Love Her" and "She's A Woman" are, among others, early McCartney favorites. No disagreement on the rest. movieman1957
Excellent list. "Drive My Car" was right close to the top. I like the "White Album" version of "Revolution" better than the single but they are both good.
FrankGrimes
That was good, CasablancaLover. Thank you for doing that. I like "You've Got to Hide Your Love Away" and "Drive My Car." I forgot about the latter, actually.
FrankGrimes
I've never been a big fan of "Twist and Shout." It is more the song than the recording. It's one of their most recognizable songs and I often attach it to Ferris Bueller. For those who really aren't fans of The Beatles (like myself), I'd guess "Twist and Shout" would often be cited as a favorite. For real fans of The Beatles, I bet it's rarely cited as a very favorite.
