casablancalover
Thanks. And like so many of us here, secret friends from each other. Thank you for posting it. I find it so unusual for McCartney to have techno-jazz in his song list, and yet, it does have that Beatle feel. What surprises are found.
pturman
From one Paul fan to a couple of others, thanks for posting! Everybody knows who Paul McCartney is but most people don't know how great a singer he was. He could croon a tender ballad (like AND I LOVE HER or LONG & WINDING ROAD) & then turn around & shred his vocal chords in a song like this:

casablancalover
I hesitate to post this. I love it so, but it does create an earworm: Paul McCartney: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nfWVKQoRXhk
scottman1932
Good one casablancalover! While this one may not create an earworm, this one is another McCartney favorite. For No One

casablancalover
Hate to break the McCartney spell momentarily, but on another thread there was much talk about Cluett in American Madness, and this song came to mind: h6. Yeah, it's Boy George.. Edited by: casablancalover on Sep 30, 2011 3:01 PM

pturman
{font:Arial}{color:black}Hope you don't mind if I, uh . . .GET BACK to Paul. Here's a couple of relatively obscure songs that showcase Paul's vocal dexterity & virtuosity. One's a crooner & one's a screamer. BTW, Casablanca, what's an earworm? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P4ys4auEDfY {font:Arial}{color:black} {font} http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mC-kt8qBIWk {font}
misswonderly3
For No One is one of the best songs Paul McCartney ever composed. It's very clever and carefully thought-out - or maybe not, maybe it's just intuitive. Such was often the genius of the Beatles. Anyway, not only is it a lovely melody that carries a yearning quality, which matches the yearning in the lyrics, but think about the ending. The chords are unresolved, as is the situation of the person in the song. It's also sung in the second person, a "you" song, quite unusual. Few songs about lost love capture its feelings as well as For No One.
pturman
Check out this version of FOR NO ONE. It's not as good as the original (& the original's sublime, typically British, emotional restraint) but it's close.
scottman1932
I agree with you, misswonderly, that is a very good assessment of For Now One. Here is one more McCartney favorite of mine: She's Leaving Home

casablancalover
*The Crystals:* h5. An earworm is a tune that your mind can't shake. For a while afterward, when your imagination is at rest, the tune will play in your unconscious and it will come to you.
