nicksays
Hello all. I'm hoping someone out there can help me. I'm working on an academic article, and I'm hoping to find a movie with a certain motif that I can incorporate into my paper. Basically, I'm looking for a movie with what seems like a classic motif: a police officer discreetly following someone around in their car, tracking their movements. it's important that the officer be tracking the vehicle (i.e., to see where the suspect is driving to), and NOT that the cop is merely sitting in his car watching what the suspect is doing outside is car (e.g. watching the suspect load a body into his trunk). It doesn't necessarily need to be the focus of the movie; it just needs to be a scene in a film. Thanks so much for your help!
FredCDobbs
I think there is a police tracking sequence in "White Heat". The cops had been able to put a radio transmitter in a large tanker truck, and the crooks are inside it. The cops track it with radio receivers and directional antennas. pilgrimsoul
I think that radio work & triangularization by the police is used in the clever early forensics movies, The Kid Glove Killer (1942), He Walked by Night (1948), Border Incident (1949) and Armored Car Robbery (1951) as well--though my memory could be faulty. danthemoviefan
A transmitter is also used to keep track of Broderick Crawford's character in The Mob, which aired on TCM last August: http://www.tcm.com/tcmdb/title.jsp?stid=27662
