jeanne9055
At 8pm in the evening, I love to settle in to a 1930's or 1940's CLASSIC. A good Joan Crawford standard, or Ginger or Bogey etc. Not a newly found color favorite from the 60's. (Guess Who's Coming to Dinner is the exception.) I love the obscure finds, that are often on early in the morning, but at 8 and 10 pm, I wants CLASSICS. Am I alone in this opinion?
classicsfan1119
Hi Jeanne, and welcome. According to my schedule for this evening's viewing, (12/11/03, and I'm in the Mountain Time Zone), beginning at 4:45pm I can see "Bodyguard" (1948), and at 6:00pm, I'll definitely watch "The Man Who Came to Dinner" (1941), and at 8:00pm I will watch "You Can't Take It With You" 1938, and finally at 10:15pm, I will also definitely watch "Dinner At Eight" (1933). These are all Classics, and wonderful movies, and this is the kind of programming that TCM generally has showing during prime time hours. Please keep watching TCM, because you will soon realize that if it's Classics you want, it's Classics you will get at TCM, and they won't be edited in any way, nor filled with dozens of commercial interruptions. rosinryanz
I have to agree with you. I was really looking forward to the 1940 version of Gaslight, but I missed it because it started at at 12:00AM. I was also astounded that during the August Summer Under the Stars, TCM played all of Garbo's lackluster films during the day (Painted Veil, Susan Lenox, and Inspiration) and her greats in the wee hours of the morning. I was quite annoying. I would like to see more TCM rareties and imports at 5:00PM - 10:00PM - more convenient viewing times. I looked up South Pacific in the schedule, and the next showtime is at 12:00AM - who can sit up that late?
jeanne9055
My point exactly. Tonight is an exceptionally good line-up. What we need (the afficionado's of this genre) is appointment TV, a la 'Friends.' I would love to garner my family and friends to meet at my house, for a showing of 'The Maltese Falcon' or 'Now, Voyager'. 8 O'clock CLASSICS, that might invite a new generation of viewers. classicsfan1119
What time zone are you in? I'll suggest that you ask for TCM's monthly Schedule to be e-mailed to you, and then you can look down through the listing for a movie that is compatable with your time zone and your idea of "prime time" viewing, and then invite your friends over. That's always a great idea, and lots of fun for an evening! Regardless of the fact that lots of good movies are shown in "the middle of the night", even where I live, I still find dozens every single month that I can easily watch live (without recording them for later viewing) before I normally go to bed. This same schedule will also give you advance warning about when you might want to set your recorder, and then you could show that recorded movie at a more convenient time to your friends. Just a thought.
