The ending of Chaplin's City Lights  makes me cry every single time lol, as for endearing though I'd say the ending of The Apartment wins every time.

Anyone else?

There's so many. I always find the ending of FIELD OF DREAMS and IT'S A WONERFUL LIFE uplifting. A RIVER RUNS THROUGH IT gets me too. There's a ton more.

Gone with the Wind (1939)

Next: The really best film from 1939, which is not Gone with the Wind.

Has to be THE WIZARD OF OZ but I wouldn't argue with THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME.

Next: Most stunning ending to a movie (shocking! What?!!!! Did that really just happen???)

THERE'S NO BUSINESS LIKE SHOW BUSINESS (1954)

next:  A movie you were really liking . . . but then the ending happened!  And you were thinking "How could such a good movie have such a crummy ending?"  Sheesh!
