It's obvious that Gloria is highly annoyed at Frank's antics, while I stare dumbfounded at his audacity. Fisticuffs were avoided however, and Gloria and I continue on our way in the next frame. Thanks a bunch, molo. That's gotta be the funniest thing I've read all day!! > I love it when you speak French! I should have paid more attention to my French tutor when I was a kid. molo14
*MissGoddess wrote:* I forgot about how she got home. Didn't he call her a cab? See, this is why I need to watch it again. If I'm remembering it correctly. Dix has changed into his pajamas because who thinks better that way. He's also really tired and wants to go to bed .Anyway by the time Mildred leaves he seems to be preoccupied with having just met Laurel. He gives Mildred cab fare and tells her there is a taxi stand down on the corner. She leaves and that's the last time we see Mildred. Laurel is out on her balcony and sees that Dix didn't leave his apartment that night. Another thing worth mentioning that I just remembered. When Dix is told of Mildred's death at the police station he acts totally nonchalant about it except to mutter poor kid when he sees the crime photo. Later he is walking down the street and stops at a florist. He has flowers sent to the funeral home. Also after he beats up the guy in the car he reads in the paper the guy's name. It turns out he's a local football star or something. He later stops off and has money wired to the guy. He does both of these acts anonymously. It just shows the contradictions in his character or maybe illustrates a guilty conscience or remorse that he didn't see Mildred to the taxi stand and that he had overreacted when he beat up the guy. *MissGoddess* Of course, if this movie were remade today she'd REALLY have to find her own way home. No guy would even THINK about "seeing that she got home safe". Brother! What? Why so jaded? You must be dating the wrong guys. A gentleman should always see a lady safely home. MissGoddess
No gentlemen in Manrattan, Molo Macao! Remember, you're in the South so you still see a vestige of better behavior down there. And to be fair, many of the guys from the boroughs (Brooklyn, etc) are better behaved than the Manrattanites, many of whom are young transplants (I'm thinking now of my neighbors in my building, most of whom have little or no "home training" like I did). Anyway, I don't want to turn GG's thread into a soapbox. Thank you for refreshing my memory about how the girl got home---or almost did. And I had forgotten about his anonymous reparations. It sounds like he was in a vicious circle--he was unhappy so he behaved badly which caused remorse which caused even more unhappiness and then the cycle starts again. Laurel stepped in and in a different world, maybe she could have broken the cycle by bringing him peace, but it wasn't to be.
CineMaven
No gentlemen in Manrattan. Whew! You're one tough cookie. Whattup Manhattan?!!!!!! Turtle Bay? Sutton Place? East Village? West Village? SoHo? Harlem? Tribeca? Loisaida? Chelsea? Hell's Kitchen? Chinatown? Little Italy? Morningside Heights? CPW? Gramercy Park? No gentlemen??? CineMaven
Okay, I've got to do some matchmaking for you. Not to hi-jack this thread away from Double G, but this is important. Okay, Gregory Peck-Mitchum-this Tom Santschi guy-Doniphon-Russell Crowe (with short hair and weight loss)-Rod Taylor type of man, correct?

I thought you were ready to put a contract out on Susan Slade's mom, just to get that teddy bear of a husband of hers? That didn't sound like it was motivated by moola... molo14
Here is just a little something for your birthday CineMaven. Gloria as she might dress for your party: Gloria, perhaps leading the gang in a chorus of Happy Birthday. (If I'm not mistaken, that's Frank on the right having a beer.) Gloria in the hay. molo14
I found a couple of interesting things on youtube. New to me anyway: Here is the trailer to Gloria's first film *Blonde Fever.* I wish TCM would show this one again. I've never seen it. She seems to have a large role in this. Certainly much larger than the brief throwaway bit she had in her next film *Without Love.* It looks like MGM was trying to build her up with this comedy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DobdBYbSkeM Here is some rare but all too brief footage of Gloria and husband Cy Howard attending the premier of *A Star is Born* and being interviewed briefly by George Fisher. Some of you may have seen this. It's a long clip of stars being announced. It's interesting just to see all the famous faces. Gloria shows up at about 3:53 into the clip. She's between Dean Martin and Edward Arnold. Interesting.
FrankGrimes
Awesome! Thanks for digging those up, Molo. Boy, how I would love to see Blonde Fever. I've been requesting it at "Suggest a Movie" for a few months now. You know, I think I'm going to start acting like the guys in that trailer. I bet that'll impress the ladies. "But I love you, my dear. I love you, I love you!"

Since it's an MGM movie, hopefully TCM wouldn't have a hard time getting the rights to show it.

I can't forget her almost Scarlett O'Hara-ish playful smile after Palance smacks her, and her "Whewww!" after she finally gets Mike Connors to go home. Such a cheerfully dark character, lol. My mother thinks GG is a good actress. When I asked her what she likes about her, Mom says, "She always looks like you can't trust her, as though she's going to steal someone's husband. But whatever role she plays, you believe her".
