Emgee66
Barbara Stanwyck?
lavenderblue19
Correct. Marilyn Monroe said that Barbara Stanwyck was the only old Hollywood actress that was ever kind to her. I'm guessing that Stanwyck, because of her awful childhood and the fact that she was in and out of foster homes could relate to Marilyn. Good work, your thread
Emgee66
Thank you. It doesn't surprise me; Stanwyck always had a good reputation amongst her co-workers, unlike some other stars...... Louis B. Mayer hated the script and said: "I would rather shoot ....... than shoot the picture." Who did he mean and what picture was he talking about? Emgee66
What movie script was offered by Howard Hughes to test the political affinities of actors? Name both titles of the same movie, that was later renamed Edited by: Emgee66 on Oct 14, 2013 3:16 PM
Emgee66
Late 40's movie, perhaps better known under it's new title. Think HUAC hearings

lavenderblue19
To move this one along, I'll take a stab with *The Sins of Harold Diddleback* renamed as *Mad Wednesday* . It starred Harold Lloyd and was directed by Preston Sturges? just a wild guess
Emgee66
Sorry, but no. The political content is really the essential ingredient.
lavenderblue19
Emgee, what do you mean by offered by Howard Hughes?
Emgee66
"offered" is maybe too casual; basically if he told you to work on this film and you refused, he considered you politically unsound. Several people at RKO lost their job as a result of their refusal to participate on this movie.
lavenderblue19
*The Woman on Pier 13* (I Married A Communist) Robert Stevenson directed, Robert Ryan was the actor. should have known, TCM does show this one. Excellent question
Emgee66
I thank you; excellent detective work. Not a bad movie considering the circumstances in which it was made; movie debut of William Talman, first in a long line of baddie roles. Anyway, you fully deserve this one
lavenderblue19
Thanks, Emgee next During filming, this actress was thrown from a horse, the horse landed on her, kicked her spine dislocating her coccyx. The actress insisted they finish the shot. For the next 2 weeks she worked on the film, then spent nights in a hospital in traction. Who was the actress?
