GENERAL TRIVIA QUESTION THREAD

Recommended Posts

Jeff Chandler was in Female on the Beach, which is considered a film noir, and the female star was Joan Crawford, who was a Best Actress Oscar winner.   So that's what my money's on.

Hope you had a lot of money on that answer Star because you are correct. Good thinking.  The noir Joan and Jeff were in together was Female On The Beach. Esther Williams was in a relationship with Jeff Chandler. Jeff and Joan Crawford had an affair for many years. Esther found out about it and  hated  Joan and when she wrote her autobiography, she certainly was very unkind to Jeff Chandler. It's my understanding from what I've read, Esther recanted what she said about Jeff Chandler. Jeff was very well liked in Hollywood, he was a very close friend of Sammy Davis, Jr's. when Sammy had his horrific accident and lost an eye, Jeff offered his eye to Sammy. Jeff died when he was 43 due to malpractice during an operation.

Princess answered 1/2 the question correctly and Star answered the other 1/2 correctly. You guys decide who wants to take the thread. Good work both of you and thanks for answering the question.

One day as this producer walked into the studio commissary, he knocked a young actress to the floor.  After apologizing and exchanging a few pleasantries, he invited her to join him for lunch and found her to be quite charming.  Then and there he decided he was going to put her into a picture.  He subsequently produced several pictures in which she starred.  Sometime later they were chatting and she asked him if he remembered how they met.  It was then that she admitted that it wasn’t an accident.  She had seen him coming through the window and had planted herself by the door so that he would knock her over when he came through.  The producer thought that it was superb.

Name the actress and the producer.

I'll guess that the producer was Joe Pasternak and the actress was Deanna Durbin.

The producer was Joe Pasternak, Miles, but the actress wasn't Deanna Durbin.  This incident took place when Joe Pasternak was working at MGM and the actress in question was not a classical singer.

She is June Allyson!  Very good, lav.

Well, Miles Archer got the producer and you got the actress.  It's an even split; so I'll leave it between you two as to who wants to take the thread.

Thanks Star, good question :) that distinctive  speaking voice and her not being known as a singer but appeared in musicals clue made me think of June.

This actress was made to sign a contract while working on a film that gave the director complete control over her because the studio was afraid of how she was going to behave on the set. who was the actress, the director and the film ???

The actress was Gloria Grahame, the director was Nicholas Ray, and the film was In a Lonely Place.  Gloria Grahame and Nicholas Ray were married at the time, but their marriage was on the rocks.  The producer of the film was worried that this situation might affect the way Gloria behaved on the set and had her sign a contract that put her under complete control of the director/her husband.

Gloria won her Best Supporting Actress Oscar for The Bad and the Beautiful.

This actor and actress had their divorce handled by a famous husband and wife team of lawyers.  After their divorce was final, the lawyers also got a divorce.  The male lawyer married the female actress and the female lawyer married the male actor, and they all were happily married until death did they part.  This became the inspiration for a movie that starred an actor and actress who had a very long-term off-screen relationship.

Name the actor and actress who got a divorce, the movie it inspired and the stars of that movie.

HInt:  The actor may be best remembered for the role that got him his one Oscar nomination.  He would play this same role in four different dramatic productions, all by different authors.

The actor was Raymond Massey, the actress was Adrianne Allen. The  lawyers were William and Dorothy Whitney. The movie that was inspired by this was Adam's Rib. starring Kate Hepburn and Spencer Tracy. Raymond Massey played Abraham Lincoln 4 times and received an Oscar nomination for Abe Lincoln in Illinois.
