DownGoesFrazier
Mother to Mickey Rooney?
MilesArcher
Correct. Fay Bainter was Mickey Rooney's mother in "Young Tom Edison" and "The Human Comedy". Fay Holden was his mom in the Hardy family series. Spring Byington played Mrs. Hardy once, in "A Family Affair" , and Ann Shoemaker was Mom in "Strike Up The Band". It's your turn! DownGoesFrazier
When the Academy honored Elia Kazan several yesrs ago, prior to his death, many in the crowd did not applaud. but at least 2 people in the audience gave him a standing ovation. Why did most of the crowd not applaud, and name 2 people in the audience who stood and applauded. Why did they do so? Edited by: finance on Dec 15, 2009 4:19 PM

DownGoesFrazier
There was likely a more specific reason why Beatty and Malden stood and applauded. What was it?
cujas
DeNiro and Scorsese were standing on either side of Kazan to show their support

DownGoesFrazier
The specific reason why Beatty and Malden were so enthusiastic in their applause is not my assumption. It was mentioned by commentators at the time. So what was it? Edited by: finance on Dec 16, 2009 5:08 PM
DownGoesFrazier
This question has a very obvious answer.
cujas
Beatty starred in Splendour in the Grass and Malden was in Streetcar Named Desire--both big hits for them, both directed by Kazan
DownGoesFrazier
You're on the right track. More specifically, both Beatty and Malden owed their careers to Kazan. Malden was given the opportunity by Kazan relatively early in his career to be in BOOMERANG, the stage and screen versions of STREETCAR, and WATERFRONT. Beatty was given the chance by Kazan to be in his first film, SPLENDOR. Your thread, cujas. Edited by: finance on Dec 18, 2009 1:38 PM
cujas
Back to Mickey Rooney--He was famous for his many wives. He had one wife who appeared in a classic noir drama that defined the genre. Name the wife and the film please.
DownGoesFrazier
You could be talking about either Ava Gardner in THE KILLERS or Martha Vickers in THE BIG SLEEP.
cujas
You're very good!--has to be The Big Sleep
DownGoesFrazier
Most people know that BLACKBOARD JUNGLE was the first film to have rock and roll in its score. But what was the first movie to have an entirely rock and roll score?

DownGoesFrazier
No, not THE GIRL CAN'T HELP IT. I didn't say it had to be a major studio release.
DownGoesFrazier
On second thought, cujas, your answer deserves to be considered correct. I was thinking ROCK AROUND THE CLOCK, which was released earlier the same year (1956). But THE GIRL CAN'T HELP IT was a much more significant film, and featured a score which was almost entirely rock and roll. Your thread.
cujas
This character actor co-starred with George Burns & Gracie Allen on TV, but also co-starred with Fred Astaire in a musical. Please name the musical and the actor.
The Lady Eve
Would it be Fred Clark ? who appeared on Burns & Allen as Harry Morton in the early years (others also played the role and Larry Keating had the role in the final years) ?and later had a role in *Daddy Long Legs* with Mr. Astaire?
