mudskipper
Thanks, Fi... Next:-- This actress was originally cast as the important female lead in this movie, which won an Oscar for its lead actor and also for its composer. Unfortunately, she was advised against doing so by Robert Mitchum because he thought the director was "cantankerous". As a result, the role went to a relative newcomer and became her most noted work...Name the actress who lost the role and the title of the movie...Of course once you know that, you'll know the names of the director and the newcomer...and the actor who won the Oscar. DownGoesFrazier
The only classic film that would seem to fit your criteria is HIGH NOON (Katy Jurado). YANKEE DOODLE DANDY (Joan Leslie) also fits, but it's too early for Mitchum to be involved.
mudskipper
Clue: This movie was made years after those two....Besides the Best Actor winner, another cast member won the Best Actor Oscar many years later. As for the actress who lost the role, she looked younger than her age...
MilesArcher
Mia Farrow was up for the female lead in "True Grit" but she dropped out after Robert Mitchum told her that director Henry Hathaway was cantankerous. The role of Mattie went to Kim Darby. Of course, John Wayne won the Oscar and cast member Robert Duvall would be a future Oscar winner. MilesArcher
Thanks. Margaret O'Brien made a movie as a teenager in which she and another girl were rivals for the affections of a boy. Much of the movie was set at a summer camp. The other girl, who was rather nasty, was played by a young actress who would go on to be a cast member of a well known TV sitcom. What was the name of the movie and who played Margaret's rival?

MilesArcher
Thanks. A modern day movie funny man used to do stand up comedy while playing a musical instrument. In a well known movie, William Demarest played a stage comedian who played a musical instrument while performing. His character's name in the movie is the same as that modern day funny actor. What is that name and what was the movie, or movies, since he played the character more than once?

MilesArcher
Yes, Steve Martin, the modern day comic actor, used to do stand-up comedy where he played the banjo. In the Jolson movies, William Demarest played a comedian named Steve Martin who played a cello in his act. William Demarest actually had played the cello in a vaudeville act in his younger days. Demarest also had a small part in "The Jazz Singer" with Jolson. Good job, Lana. You're up now.
allaboutlana
Thanks. Since we?re talking about people whose names are used in the movies, here?s one: This actress, who is still with us, acted from 1938 to 1942 in 18 appearances, in supporting roles. Her most notable appearances were in a Barbara Stanwyck film and a Ginger Rogers film, and she was also in a Joan Fontaine comedy 60m short film (which I have seen. I have been aware of this similarity for some time, as I discovered the Fontaine film a long time ago on AMC before it went commercial.) Just prior to this actress? first bit part in 1938, a movie came out in 1937 where the lead actress played a character with this actress? real name. With this information, can you name the actress and the 1937 film that took her name a made it a household name, without later generations of moviegoers knowing there is a real -----?
