Frank G - If I get your drift, you don't care for Tyrone Power? Try *Blood and Sand* 1941, with beautiful Linda Darnell and Rita Hayworth, and beautiful Tyrone and Anthony Quinn. I haven't seen it in a very long time, but there's lots besides Tyrone Power to look at. It is a Fox film, though. If I read you incorrectly re: Tyrone Power, watch it anyway someday. HollywoodGolightly
I've been a huge fan of Blood and Sand since the first time I watched it - though I still think it is a bit over-the-top. The Technicolor is gorgeous, though! :x
Minya
*Try Blood and Sand 1941, with beautiful Linda Darnell and Rita Hayworth, and beautiful Tyrone and Anthony Quinn.* I've never seen this version. I do love the 1922 version with the beautiful Rudolph Valentino, however. Grimey, I was thinking of you the other day-I finally watched *Cat People* and *Curse of the Cat People* that I had DVR'd ages ago. You're a big Val Lewton fan, aren't you? Or did I just make that up in my brain? Anyway, I loved them.
HollywoodGolightly
OMG, there is a Rudolph Valentino version, too? I must add that to my queue or search for it somewhere, can't get enough of Valentino! :x Thank you so much for mentioning it, Minya; the TCM forums rock!
FrankGrimes
Hola, Missy G -- Oh brother. Who? George Raft and Robert Cummings! But I will say that Harry Carey is in the pic, too. How's the sand, Rio? -- Grimey, I was thinking of you the other day Ohhhhhhh, rrrreally? I finally watched Cat People and Curse of the Cat People that I had DVR'd ages ago. D'oh! You're a big Val Lewton fan, aren't you? Yes! Very much so! Or did I just make that up in my brain? Your mind is starting to work some. It's great to see you making progress. Anyway, I loved them. Awesome! Do you want to talk about 'em? I'm always game to talk Lewton. There are others on this board who also love Cat People and The Curse of the Cat People, most notably, Bronxie and JackFavell. How do, Cinemafan? -- What a lovely surprise this is. If I get your drift, you don't care for Tyrone Power? No, that's not my drift. Here's my drift: I have two Tyrone Power box sets and I have 22 of his movies on DVD but the reason I have bought each of these are the ladies who starred opposite of him, primarily Gene Tierney, Linda Darnell, and Maureen O'Hara. Those three gals are amongst my favorite actresses. So anyone who saw my DVD collection would think I'm a big Power fan when I'm basically indifferent to him. The Power film and performance that I like most so far is Nightmare Alley, which is one film I didn't buy for his co-starring lass. Try Blood and Sand 1941, with beautiful Linda Darnell and Rita Hayworth, and beautiful Tyrone and Anthony Quinn. I haven't seen it in a very long time, but there's lots besides Tyrone Power to look at. It is a Fox film, though. If I read you incorrectly re: Tyrone Power, watch it anyway someday. Thank you very much for that recommendation. It's hard to top the Linda-Rita combination. The only duo I can think of that I like better would be Grace and Ava Gardner in Mogambo. I also like Ava and Deborah Kerr in The Night of the Iguana and Rita and Deborah in Separate Tables. Rita and Kim Novak in Pal Joey interests me. I also like Gene and Jeanne in Leave Her to Heaven. Let's see, maybe Gloria and Maureen in A Woman's Secret and Gloria and Lana in The Bad and Beautiful and Linda and Maureen in Buffalo Bill. Hmmmmmmm... I think you may have a thread here. Would Jane Greer and Rhonda Fleming count in "Out of the Past" or do the babes have to square off opposite each other. You've given me food for thought Frankie me boy! FrankGrimes
Hola, Jacqueline! -- Lamby is upset with you! She can't be! She was named in my favorite duo! Love that "angry" pic of her, though. I need to make her angry more often. You like Nightmare Alley? Interesting. For a gal who doesn't watch film noir, you've seen some film noir. No Frank sandwich here? Katy is too much for you? Yes! I'm a eunuch. Ciao, CineBabe! -- Cinemaven adds: May I add Harlow and Loy in "Wife vs. Secretary" and "Libeled Lady" to your "Same-Sex-Dynamic-Duos-But-Not-In-THAT-Way" thread of yours. Harlow? Meh. I'll go with Myrna and Gloria in The Song of the Thin Man. Would Jane Greer and Rhonda Fleming count in "Out of the Past" or do the babes have to square off opposite each other. They count. Although I think it would be more interesting if the two performers have bigger roles. Ingrid and Lana in Dr Jekyll and Mr. Hyde! You've given me food for thought Frankie me boy! Blame Cinemafan. She's the mad genius. She should start that thread.

MissGoddess
I watched High Noon again when it aired the other night and each time I see Katy's performance I find it more and more enthralling and too darn short. I would LOVE to have seen a movie with Gary and Katy only as lovers. I _do_ love Grace, I've always been a huge admirer of hers, but her character just doesn't click with Cooper as well as "Helen" in my opinion.

MissGoddess
> > I think that would have been too much for my poor heart to handle. Wouldn't it though?! The tension between them, since their temperaments are so opposite, would make for some fascinating clashes.
coopsgirl
I'm the same way about Katy. Every time I watch *High Noon*, which is a lot, I like her more and more (and Grace less and less). I think she and Gary would have made a good team; it's a shame that didn't happen. When the Austin Film Society screened *HN* last year here as part of a tribute to Mexican actresses in Hollywood the guy introducing the film had interviewed Katy pretty extensively and he explained that she and Grace didn't get along too well. Katy was a pretty established actress in Mexico and this was Grace's first film and Grace was getting most of the camera time during their scenes together and Katy spoke up and complained so they changed it. Katy also said she could tell Grace was nervous around her b/c she had a strong presence and knew more what she was doing and Katy kinda got a kick out of that.

HollywoodGolightly
Love Katy Jurado! :x *Katy was a pretty established actress in Mexico and this was Grace's first film and Grace was getting most of the camera time during their scenes together and Katy spoke up and complained so they changed it.* I think it's safe to say KJ was much more than a "pretty established actress" in Mexico at the time, she had almost certainly reached star status, second only to Dolores del Rio.
