Bronxgirl48
I loved WESTWARD THE WOMEN (commented a little about it in Westerns) and got nauseous all over again by THE OSCAR. (I always thought Stephen Boyd was so good-looking, though) Sophia night yesterday of course. We've got some DESIRE UNDER THE ELMS discussion golng on. I was shocked that Anthony Quinn didn't overact in BLACK ORCHID. (probably got exhausted from WILD IS THE WIND the year before. In BO, he's got more brilliantine on his hair than Rudy Valentino ever had) I'm more and more impressed with Sophia as an actress; she can be subtle yet very dramatic, all at the same time. Quite remarkable. I love that bit too with the hat in SE. I think I saw another Brook film with Irene Dunne and Nils Asther when they had her as SOTM, but I can't remember the title and evidently the movie was just a typical early Irene soaper, not very memorable. I haven't seen Clive anywhere else, unfortunately. I believe he played Sherlock Holmes once on film. Message was edited by: Bronxgirl48

What if someone doesn't want to recycle? Is he/she going to be sent to a facility for "correction"? If someone doesn't believe in global warming, are they going to be stoned in the marketplace? > > I was shopping at Whole Foods last week and someone asked me what I was doing to go green. Oh my I just laughed myself to pieces over that. Bronxie, if you think it's intense here you don't want to go to Europe---it's everywhere and at every level. Of course, they're more used to "conserving" and saving everything than we are but I still suspect that alot of this stuff is just another way for corporations to make more money. What's the worst thing about travelling? Opening your suitcase to a lot of laundry to be done. I mised THE OSCAR and the real kick in the head was my CABLE DIED WHILE I WAS AWAY and now I am TV-less (except dvds) until Suday. Ach!!!!! And I so wanted to record THE BLACK ORCHID, it's one of my facorite movies!!!! I actually prefer Sophia with Anthony than with Marcello, isn't that sick? I don't know, maybe because she's one of the few actresses who could subdue him a bit on screen. I was so upset about my derth of TCM but too jetlagged to do more than revert to squealing New York nasty language at the cable box.

Bronxgirl48
Relax, don't do everything all at once, make yourself a favorite hot beverage and sip s-l-o-w-l-y. I should talk, though, little miss multi-tasker here. Whenever I come home from a trip, I can't go to sleep unless everything is unpacked and put away, lists drawn up for the next day, and I get in at least one yoga stretch. I gotta say that I love Sophia with Marcello, and her with Tony Quinn is somehow too much for me, if you know what I mean. He's a force of nature and so is she. That's why I love her with MM and Tony Perkins, they're more vulnerable and boyish, and she can play the earth mother/lover with them. Bummer that your cable died. Ah, yes, THE OSCAR. Have you seen it before? If not, you're in for an experience. The only good thing I can say about it is that Edie Adams is in it. I love her. (but this dog only makes even her look bad) Message was edited by: Bronxgirl48
Bronxgirl48
We're having our usual awful summer thunderstorms down here, with the horror-movie lightning. I had never seen NORTH TO ALASKA before and wanted to watch my Duke, even on AMC. So I turn it on, and am enjoying it (he's lookin' real good, trim and youthful; must have gone on a diet beforehand) when all of a sudden -- BAM -- the power goes out on my t.v., just as the shaggy dog leaps into the tub with Capucine. metsfan
Good to see you back MissG, glad you had a nice trip! Now you can resume torturing Bad Boy Grimes in company of Bronxgirl. Even though he doesn't want to say it, he was really distraught in your absence. Barbara, please send some thunderstorms my way. I love them. FrankGrimes
Good Evening, Pr?chtige Intelligente Komische Br?nette -- I'm not up on my German: what does "Grunes" mean? It better be something like "gorgeous intelligent funny brunette" Exactly! And you said you weren't up on your German. No, THE OSCAR was on too late for Mom. She usually hits the hay around 10 p.m., although if it's something she REALLY wants to see, she'll stay up later. Apparently this masterpiece of awfulness didn't interest her. I would have LOVED to hear her take. Hmm, I not sure when she colored her hair last. Probably yesterday, which means she'll do it again this week-end. Has your mom been watching any flicks of late or has she been busy with Gregory Peck?
Bronxgirl48
metsfan, I give you ALL our Florida daily thunderstorms. Take them away immediately! I'm a weather geek (I love the Weather Channel and can watch it for hours at a time) and love meteorological phenomenon, and enjoy a rousing, moody storm, but only in a four season climate, preferably in the autumn, where outside it looks like Ichabod Crane might come racing across a footbridge with the Headless Horseman in ghastly pursuit. Bronxgirl48
I'm so glad you translated correctly. It wouldn't have been good for you if you hadn't. If Mom had seen THE OSCAR, I'm sure she'd mention the fact that Stephen Boyd just NEVER SHUT UP. She would have been holding her ears. Gregory and Bill Holden have been seen around her apartment late at night, but she did manage to catch THE GOOD EARTH, which we both love. She really enjoys Luise Rainer as O-Lan. She also loves Sophia Loren but didn't catch yesterday's offerings, as she went to bed early that night.
FrankGrimes
I'm so glad you translated correctly. It wouldn't have been good for you if you hadn't. That sounds awfully tempting. If Mom had seen THE OSCAR, I'm sure she'd mention the fact that Stephen Boyd just NEVER SHUT UP. She would have been holding her ears. I always find it interesting how people, especially women, focus in one or two things that annoy them. Mama Bronxie likes Sophia? That's quite interesting. Bronxgirl48
When the storm finally died down, of course the movie was over, darn it. I really like Capucine; she's very elegant but accessible somehow; I just get good feelings about her. I've only seen her in THE PINK PANTHER and WALK ON THE WILD SIDE, but I always react positively when she's on screen.
Bronxgirl48
Mom thinks Sophia is an underrated actress, and I agree. Why is this unusual, Grimes? Loren is a "mama" too, mamma mia! What are you saying about women focusing on the little things that bother them?? Are you implying that we can't envision the big picture, we can't see the forest for the trees, we're small and petty and not lion-hearted and brave and resourceful and noble like you men, who start wars and are violent and dumb and simple-minded and smelly and dirty and who have only one thing on their minds day and night, night and day, forever and ever into eternity..... Bronxgirl48
It's very depressing to hear that Europe is so P.C. now. I mean, if I go to Ireland or Scotland, I may not want to inhale secondhand smoke, but the thought of the government banning tobacco in pubs is very disturbing and chilling to me. FrankGrimes
Mom thinks Sophia is an underrated actress, and I agree. Why is this unusual, Grimes? Loren is a "mama" too, mamma mia! Not unusual, but interesting. I'm always interested in hearing the favorites of people because I believe it can tell you a lot about them. Now that killed me! Violent, dumb, simple-minded, smelly, dirty, and one-track mind? You have me pegged! I always smile when women talk about annoyances. It's highly entertaining. That's what I was getting at. Last week, I was in a room where a mother and daughter were holding a conversation aloud for others to hear. There was one other person in the room, ahem. The daughter, who was in her early-20s, spoke of never wanting to get married and her mother said she wanted a family when she was her age but really didn't want to get married. The mother then went on to say men are rotten. TRANSLATION: They both want a man... BADLY. Ahhhh, women.
metsfan
If I get struck by thunder, will my body turn purple then blue? I must stand outside next time. I've always wanted to meet the Headless Horseman but he's afraid of riding in the Boogie Down Bronx. Bad Boy Grimes, the mailbox has been burned. Bronxgirl48
There's a golf course near me where you can stand in the middle of the afternoon to get that special ZAP when the storm comes by. Then you'll reincarnate into a purple and blue horse and Stan Laurel will come and visit you. I think I hear the sound of horse's hooves coming your way.
